What size pinion nut for rear differential of FZJ80?

For years pretty much all Land Cruisers had the same size nuts holding the flange onto the pinion. Mine has a Nitro 4.88 gearset which has a 29 spline front pinion (even though it is a smaller dif). I'm pretty sure the rear nitro pinion is 27 spline but has an undersized pinion nut compared to the OEM gearset. Can anyone confirm this? Last time I replaced a rear seal I recall ordering a new "factory" sized nut and it was too large.

Yeah, I'm like 90% sure Toyota went to 29spl on all the 8" stuff, but I don't think anyone makes a 29spl 9.5" Landcruiser gearset... which is frustrating.

I’ve polished my rear pinion/yoke and cut through at least one rear drive shaft. After a while it will loosen up and leak. Thats a good time to slap in a new seal. With the solid spacers I can crank the nut down nice and tight and not worry about it. I prefer to replace the stake nut. Last time I ordered a supposed OEM stake nut it was too large. Maybe they sent me one for a 29 spline? I have one on the way that hopefully should fit.

According to catalogs and such it should be 90179- 22016 (M22 x1.5) which replaces the non flanged 90179-22011. I might have ordered a 90179-20018 (M20 x1.5). I asked the guy from the cruiser shop to send me the "standard sized stake nut for the rear pinion of and FZJ80 with aftermarket nitro gears". I guess ill see which one I get. it will either fit or not. I swear I recall the rear nut on the nitro gearset being smaller than the OEM nut (unless I was sent the wrong nut the last time I ordered one). Clear as mud?

for what it's worth, the nut I ordered came packaged as #90179-20018, M20x1.5 and fit perfectly.

90179-20016 and 90179-20018 appear physically similar in some online photos and have the same threads but are they interchangeable?? IDK

Some sources indicate they both are rear pinion flange nuts, others show 90179-20016 is specified as a rear pinion nut where 90179-22018 is specified for an automatic transmission yolk??

Do they have the same number of threads and/or dimensions (overall height, collar height, thickness of the flange, etc), same steel/hardness specs?? IDK

OR, they are identical but made by different manufacturers so got different part numbers??

A parts guru may have a definitive answer.
