I've poured over the threads regarding windshield replacement as much as possible (not saying I didn't miss something!), and want to get some feedback on what parts have to be ordered, and what parts might be able to be reused, and if there's any way to tell before removing the windshield.

Here is the list I've assembled from other posts:

  • 56111-60272 – Windshield Glass
  • 87805-60010 – Inner rear view mirror base sub-assembly
    • Needed if purchasing windshield?
  • 90269-04053 – Rivet [qty. 10 (2 extra)]
  • 56115-02010 – Back window glass #1 stopper (qty. 2)
    • Previous part # 56115-33020
  • 56117-50140 – Dam kit back window glass (qty. 2)
    • previous part # 64813-52010
  • 56117-60050 - Windshield Glass Adhesive Dam
  • 53383-60031 – Seal, hood to cowl top
  • 75543-60020 - Windshield moulding, outside #2 RH
  • 75531-60030 - Windshield moulding, outside RH outer upper
  • 75533-60031 – Windshield moulding, outside RH
    • Needed? Expensive!
  • 75534-60021 - Windshield moulding, outside LH
    • Needed? Expensive!
Non-toyota items:
  • 3M Auto Glass Urethane Windshield Adhesive, 08693
  • 3M Single Step Primer, 08682

Are the outside windshield mouldings (RH & LH) absolutely needed for windshield replacement? Those 2 pieces nearly double the cost of the parts needed!

Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance.

If your LC is sunbaked like mine, Id honestly bite the bullet and replace all the moldings and rubber. 20 years of Cali sun did a number on my plastic and rubber exterior parts.

If it’s more of a northern one or has been shaded and not beat, most you could reuse.

Do it right and replace it all then don’t think about it for a decade.

The top and side mouldings have metal in them. Its likely the installer will bend these upon removal.

Shoddy or half-baked windshield installs on these trucks do not pay off in the long run.

Thanks, that’s what my gut says. There’s a good installer close to me so if I bring everything they need it will be done right.

Are you looking at just the front windshield? I’m in the same boat because of some rust bubbling I noticed. My current windshield is fine, but I’d like to replace it and repair the rust issue while I’m there. As far as I know, all you need is the molding on each side of the window and the rivets, seems like you have a lot of extra parts here.

Also, does anyone recommend actually purchasing the Toyota windshield yourself or should you just let the installer provide the glass?

I remove inner & outer side molding, along with wipers and lower molding. By drilling only heads off rivets of outer side molding. Then getting under molding in rain gutter with a carbon fiber chisel. I separate the two sided tape hold molding to body (sometime black poly (glue)) in rain gutter. Being very careful, to not pull up molding and bend metal back bone. If backbone, ever bend, it must be replaced!

If windshield being removed, is a replacement. I may find black ploy was used, in rain gutter and or "A" pillar, to glue on side molding. I use paint safe tools (Carbon fiber, plastic and easier wheel) to remove back poly, down to clean paint. I may also find rust. Which then means removing rust and painting. May even require body work, if rust holes in body metal.

One can get all the OEM part and do book method or:
But just black poly, 3M double sided auto body trim tape (if reusing old side moldings) and 8 plastic coated aluminum rivets is all that is needed. This is provide you've and installer that adds just the right amount of black ploy and set in square at correct height and depth from glass.

See windshield links, in my Master thread link below.

the expensive moldings 75533-60031 and 75534-60021 can be re-used , but with 20+ years of age on them, you are going to have to be extremely careful when removing them. the top is held on by double-sided tape, and you either have to bend them up and hope you can then bend them back, or pull them up+off wihtout damage and replace the tape

Just the front windshield. Definitely going OEM. Toyota has a 25% off sale right now and I’m able to go pick it up from the dealership. Have a reputable installer in the area that does it for $275.

Man, would I like to get a windshield. Bronze w/night view, at 25% off wholesale.:(
I'm not even seeing the bronze anymore W/O NV. Any have a sources for either?

I don’t know why, but I never even considered an OEM windshield. All the parts I replace I use OEM but the windshield, that didn’t even cross my mind. I’m going to look into that as well. Can I ask how much you’re paying?

With the 25% off all of the parts are around $875. That’s for everything on the list I made.

Thats actually not bad. I assume that includes the 2 expensive moldings? If so I might bite the bullet on everything myself. Curious how they pack the windshield to protect it.
That does include the expensive moldings. From my understanding, you cannot ship the windshield it has to be picked up from the dealership.

Thank you for confirming. Do you by any chance know the part # for the bronze tinted windshield? The part # on Partsouq for the bronze option doesn't bring up anything on Toyota, but the green tinted part # does bring up the correct windshield.
The mirror mount comes with the windshield if you purchase OEM

Yea I’m aware of that but in my experience they still ship all the parts to the dealership from warehouses around the country. Curious to see how its packaged when you pick it up.
