Fawk all Doug .. I left for a 1200 mile trip (one way) today and never even checked the oil, tire pressure or anything ..

Main thing is my signals aren't pooched anymore ..

Greetings all. Thank god there are others out there as obsessive about Cruisers/Toyotas as I am (The wife doesn't even pretend she is listening anymore). Certainly not the quantity of Doug but my quirks are intensely important to me. Ok, here goes, don't slam the doors, don't put feet or anything on the dash, seat belts must always be untangled, never slide in/out on seats, click the gas cap only once, always let the engine warm up and build oil pressure before ever taking it out of park, and please, please no tire dressing!

Thanks for letting me rant, I too feel much better. :)

All this about telling people not to slam the doors, I have to slam mine to get them to shut right, I reckon the PO, who also treated my baby like s*** on a regular basis, must have slammed them so much they got used to it.

I am still working on getting everything right so that I can keep up with all the OCD things I should.

if another door is open do you still have to slam them?

on mine there is a considerable diffrence in closing force when the vehicle is air tight. (other windows/doors closed).

Slamming doors is a pet peeve here as well.

I always set the parking brake, shift to N, let off the foot brake, and let the truck settle against the parking brake before shifting to P. [tech] This is alleged to reduce wear on the pawl. [/tech]

I never shift out of reverse and into drive until the truck is fully stopped. [tech] This should be easier on the tranny than shifting on the move. [/tech]

I stopped taking it to the mechanic and now DIY the stuff I can handle. Not so OCD by local standards, but this place is populated by the lunatic fringe. All my nieghbors thought I was nuts for doing my birfs in my garage.

That's about all for now, but I'm sure as I hang around here the list will grow.

DesertDude,

I hear ya on the chat, but almost everything I do is based upon reduced wear, greater longevity or preventing damage. These three things are the very essence of tech....

I wheel the #%&! out of mine, slam the doors and use Quaker State oil in it, the only OCD thing I do is check this forum about 50 times a day to get a kick out of all the OCD stuff you guys do:flipoff2:

Change that to dello oil and we are on par. Ok I may not wheel mine as hard as you, but I'll try harder.

Wash top down.

No door slamming.

Walkaround tire check everyday.

Stand staring at running engine just to watch everything working properly.

Vacumn battery box.

Crawl underneath and lay there for fifteen minutes checking everything out.

Do all this to two trucks regularly. I think the neighbors are used to it now. I used to see them peeking out doors and windows watching me. I wear camo alot and walk in and out the house with black guns quite often, so I can't really blame them.

OK, I'll admit to a couple:
- reminding the family I don't want them to slide down the side of the PS front seat. I want them to stand on the slider first and then step down... (is that so difficult to remember, :censor: ?) :)
- only barely touching the go pedal, uses too much gas otherwise... :)

Oh please Eric.....;p

You know very well that the only time an 80 does not used too much fuel is when it's shut off....:flipoff2:

i am overly obsessed with rust prevention as i drive her in the dunes every summer, i regularly find myself laying underneath with a can of wd-40 spraying anythign that resembles rust or something that could rust and then just laying there to make sure everything looks normal. the whole door slamming thing is the worst, drives me insane. for such little women my mom and sister can really get those doors moving. i could fill a book with the comments i get back after i tell people, hey ya dont have to slam the doors, shes a beast but be gentle with her. decals on the windows for parking must be perfectly level and oil stickers i remove n put in the ash tray as being ocd i dont forget when the oil needs ot be changed. i definately agree with tirediron, i am ocd about checking this forum continuously throughout the day. is ocd such a bad thing?:flipoff2:

I think El Perro confessed to actually caring about the appearance of his 80!! Heh - call the press!

Haha... yeah, that might have sounded funny... but there's a big difference between me crapping up my 80, and somebody else crapping it up. I think not-so-deep-down, you'll agree.

Add to my OCD, just spent almost 2 hours with some grease lightning, a water hose, and about 12 towels cleaning my engine. It's ALMOST clean enough to eat off of now, still gotta do some more, but it's too damn cold.

Also, anything I should spray on it after I'm done cleaning it?

Perro,

Agree - I never get to dig you on anything, so couldn't pass up a shot from the trees...

Ok .. I realized I do have a huge OCD issue in my 80. The volume HAS to be on an even number. Same as my TV at home .. and if I leave the 80 running, tunes on, with others in it, I'll recheck the volume number when I return ..

That count?? Or is that just plain nutz? :D

TY

That's nutz buff boy.....LOL.

On the other hand I won't tolerate station changes.

What about dis one? I scope out parking spots as the and compare their likeliness to cause door dings. Small cars can't ding an 80, no matter how fat and lazy the people getting in and out of them are.

On a OCD related note, have you guys checked the inside of your oil caps lately? Mine is clean now but I hope that is not a reflection of what the inside of my 1Z looks like.
