What OCD things do you do on the 80?

Heres another one I repeated about 25090 times on my way to Denver ..

I have not regeared the 80, and am running 36's, so I always keep the power button on, and on hills I disengage the OD.

But I ALWAYS wonder if I have the OD on or off, and my arm position precludes a hidden cluster, and I don't like to take my eyes off the road, so I am in the habit of sliding my right thumb off the shifter where I rest my hand, and I stroke the OD button in a circular motion .. kinda like a nipple :D just to make sure it's where it ought to be for the topography I'm in ..

Unhuh .. :grinpimp:

Holy crap. I am picturing exactly what you're talking about and lets just say I wasn't ready for how you chose to describe the situtation.

I do the parking lot thing also - never park next to coupes, old pickups, or "old people's cars" (Crown Victorias, Buick Park Avenues, etc) or on the downhill side of another car.

Ty, I'm with ya on the power button. Mine is only off when it's accidentally bumped and the spot Toyota chose really isn't appropriate when there's stuff rattling around on the center console. Been thinking about moving mine and the 2nd gear start button up to the closest angled coin holder 6 inches rearward of the current position. Did this on a Montero once to move a switch that was a pain when bumped on - 2nd gear start.

I jerry-rigged away to attach my rear passenger side flare when I knocked it off against a tree.

I know, I know...OCD city.

But I'm with you on any and all decals. MUST...BE...LEVEL...

Slamming doors is a pet peeve here as well.

I always set the parking brake, shift to N, let off the foot brake, and let the truck settle against the parking brake before shifting to P. [tech] This is alleged to reduce wear on the pawl. [/tech]

I never shift out of reverse and into drive until the truck is fully stopped. [tech] This should be easier on the tranny than shifting on the move. [/tech]

I do those exact same things.

Other than those things I don't do much else. But then again, I've only had my Cruiser for a little over a month.

I can repect that Doug - I know sometimes great info can come from these discussions - ;)

To add something OCD - I like to keep my engine very clean to a fault - I like to see the shine under the hood  I can always see a leak starting from a mile away ;)

DesertDude,

I hear ya on the chat, but almost everything I do is based upon reduced wear, greater longevity or preventing damage. These three things are the very essence of tech....

Wash and detailed the motor 3 or 4 times year, and usually takes about half an hour / 45 mins for me to park cruiser. I need to park the cruiser safe and far away from the crowded place, but if there aren't choice I took two spot. Just to avoid unexpected / dent on the door :D

I feel completely inadequate as none of my OCD oddities are worthy of posting in this tread. Some of you guys are plain nutz and we haven't heard from turbocruiser yet.

On a OCD related note, have you guys checked the inside of your oil caps lately? Mine is clean now but I hope that is not a reflection of what the inside of my 1Z looks like.

WD

I cleaned mine out the day I brought it home. Even made an entry in my spreadsheet that it was obvious the PO did not clean the cap regularly and wondering out loud if I was the only one in the world that did this. I guess not! :)

People that took two spot in the crowded place usually get keyed.

Be careful

LX_TREME- that kind of thing gives SUV drivers a bad name, and the others are right- I've heard of people getting keyed for much less.

I've seen it happen. I also know someone who "accidentally" scuffed and dented the hell out of a car that double parked half in the space that he was already in.

If I have to park next to some inconsiderate Ahole who has double parked, I always retract the mirror on his or her passenger side door so that I don't bash them when I get in and out of my car. I don't want to damage someone's car, but I hope it inconveniences them and sends a message.

My personal OCD consists of the following obsession:

Money for boat = money for cruiser = money for tackle = money for keeping she who must be obeyed happy. STIR . Repeat. Wake up in cold sweat. STIR. Repeat. Add pay for junior's college. STIR. Repeat.

I had Toyota repaint my 94 crusier and replace all the exterior plastic and rubber "because it looked old"

I replaced the exterior door handles "because they looked old"

I replaced my windshield wiper arms "because they looked old"

I tell the Toyota service writers that I want to keep the LC perfect, knowing full well they screw me over left and right.

I use compressed air to get all the dust off before I clean the dash, to avoid scratches

I have one more set of "new in the box" floor mats left over from the three sets I bought when the car was new.

I have an extra owners manual, still sealed in plastic.

I have the original window sticker and all other repair records in my "landcruiser scrapbook."

I replaced a perfectly good windshield because the installer used a non-factory replacement.

I do oil changes before 2900 miles because waiting starts to bug me.

I've been wheeling my LC since the week I got it, but you'd never know it. The damn thing looks and runs like new.

OK.... who can beat that?

I think the OCD thing I do that a lot of people can relate to is the door-lock argument. That is, when you unlock the door and various passengers try to open the door at the exact moment the door is unlocking. It is absolutely amazing how consistently some people can time this so perfectly. This pisses me off to no end. ;)

When my friends did this, I'd make them wait outside until I got my seatbelt on and got the vehicle started. Only then would they be allowed to get in. :D

I hate when people double park. Either park far away or don't park at all. Drives me and most others nuts.

I try to remember to pull out the branches that get stuck between body panels. I can't quite reach the ones in the roof rack, so my 80 is camo'ed from the air. I sometimes back into brush to make sure the tailgate matches the rest of the car's finish.

I park as close as possible to people who double-park, always blocking the driver's door with my passenger side. Had one early 20's guy walk out of the bank as I was sidling up to his new black Mercedes. He wasn't pleased. Gave me some story about being forced to double park because the guy next to him was double-parked when he arrived. I said "wow, so you couldn't pick between either of the two spaces you took? " He blathered on, and when it became obvious I wasn't moving, he crawled in his car from the passenger side. That was sweet.
