What kind of starter does my FJ60 use?

Having to buy a starter, I'm at work, truck won't start, Orielly's and Napa are both asking me what type of starter is it: direct drive or gear reduction?

I'm not sure, does anyone know which design the starter is for an 82 FJ60?

They do understand it is the 2F gas and not a diesel?

If a gear reduction type is available and will fit I'd use that.

Gear reduction starters draw less power and may weigh less.

I had an '81 FJ60 that did not have the gear reduction starter so may be possible that your '82 has the older style starter. Either starter will work and given the choice go with the later gear reduction unit.

Go gear reduction, check all your battery cable and terminals before swapping out starter.
