This guy has been coming around. Some of the neighbors have told us that this dog belongs to the new owner of a ranch on top the mountain. I was told that it was a dog that hunts mountain lions, and that the owner has been losing livestock to mountain lions. Don't know if any of this is true maybe someone here can give me some insight. The dog seems pretty young and friendly enough yet skittish.

I'm not sure how old it is but seems like it's a big puppy. I would guess it's weight to be 110lbs maybe. Probably going to be much heavier when he matures. The whole "mountain lion hunting dog" comment made me laugh but what do I know?

i have a dane, and her best friend is a mastif. I am with trunk, if you combined the two of them, that is what you would get.

2ELO beat me to it. It is an Anatolia Shepherd. The are from Turkey and Afghanistan. The really interesting thing about these dogs is that they are bred to kill wolves. Once onto a pack they will not stop until they have killed every wolf. They are also very gentle around the house.:)

very interesting. Cool dog too.

You can't tell that with a picture.

Sure I can. His hackles are raised and his tails pointed straight up, both signs of dominant aggressive behavior. The other dog has its tail flat and head bowed, showing non threatening, submissive behavior.
When you've owned large dogs as long as I have you become very aware of dog behavior.

The Boarder Collie is mine. Both dogs were feeling each other out at the time the pic was taken. They both were a little unsure at first, but ended up playing together. They never got totally comfortable with each other in the short time the big guy was here, but never was there any aggression from either dog.

That's a big dog, and not being too friendly when meeting your pooch. Your neighbors should keep him around the house and not wandering.

Oh yeah? Caesar Milan up there is saying that the big dog is aggressive by looking at a picture. You must be wrong.

Just going by what I see. After owning and showing amstaffs/ pitbulls and running a rescue for years, a person gets a good idea of how to read dogs.
