Too much time spent putzing vs driving. When the discussion got silly on the P 992 forum about PPF etc, I always remind them the last time I washed my car was when it rained. It's not a Ferrari it's an AWD/RWS 450hp pony that needs to be driven year round not pampered...just mind the wildlife!

You say that like it's a bad thing!

Coming from an AE86, the M Coupe is superior in every single way. But passing cars with 3x the hp is pretty comical in a 100hp car.

It goes off road too.

Curious to hear more about this trip. I want to drive to glacier next year.

12/10 recommend driving to Glacier. I did it in my 200 a few years ago. 4 adults, two 18 month old girls. Camped there and back. Not a single night slept in a hotel.
Somewhere around 4,000 miles by the time we wondered around Montana / Wyoming after.

I've been to Banff + Jasper (loved), Yellowstone (too touristy/disney worldish), Teton (LOVED) and Salt Lake/Park City (did an amazing hike in Park City called Lake Blanche Trail).
I need to get out to Glacier....

And when you're done with those, you can come up and see some real Parks. Denali (9,400 square miles) and Wrangell-St. Elias (20,587 square miles), which is bigger than Switzerland. That's just two of the eight parks. Here's some info

HAHA! It was certainly something that I noticed the price per gallon but tried not to focus on the total! Thankfully friends picked up some gas trips. Lots of filling up at half tank just to be safe!

We have done Glacier (sans Going to the Sun Road) and Yellowstone before. It was my first time doing Going to the Sun Road and highly recommend it - especially going west to east. This gives your passengers the 'cliff side'. We did a hike in the park but it was drizzly. I do recommend the boat tours near the east entrance. We did this last time and really enjoyed it.

Out of the others we visited on this trip - Banff, YoHo, Teton - I would say Teton was out favorite. We took the Jenny Lake shuttle and then hiked to Lake Solitude. 14 miles there and back. Not for the faint of heart - it is tough - but were rewarded by bears and a few moose.

We have done Deer Valley many times for skiing but haven't done Park City. I'll take this to the list! I haven't visited during mud season but the hotel prices are enticing.

Make sure to go to the Many Glacier area. We enjoyed that a ton!

In 2015, I visited a friend that lived in Anchorage. We hiked the Harding Icefield with cramp-ons (never again), fished in Homer, but only had ONE DAY in Denali. Not nearly enough time.

I haven't researched it enough to be educated on the entire process (shipping requirements) and needs (extra spares, extended gas tank) - but HIGH on my list is driving to Tacoma, TOTE drive-on/drive-off from Tacoma to Anchorage. Meet the 200 there, then explore Alaska and drive back from Alaska on a several week route. I don't know that I currently have enough friends that are willing and able to do this with me. It doesn't look like it is happening in 2027 so there is still time to make some new friends!

I would as a start recommend the ferry from Belligham to Haines. forget the Alcan, it's a 1,000 miles of no cell phone and roads that will rip your tires to shreds. The ferry is incredible (yes, depends on weather) but I can't recommend it enough. It's not cheap but well worth it - when you get to Haines you'll still be 1,050 or so miles from Fairbanks (yes AK is over twice the size of Tx).

Did El Paso to Fairbanks a couple of years ago with a friend's Class A and towing a flat bed with a Subaru. If you don't want to do the ferry (you need to book!!!!) then I suggest the Cassiar Highway; much more scenic.

Get a satphone.

So my 2013 has its share of squeaks and rattles. Esp after we come home from romping around in the dirt.

Last night, I notice a new rattle coming from “I think” the front-ish part of the truck. New rattle. Haven’t heard this one before. It’s not the rear shock click/clunk I’m preoccupied with. Great. More problems.

All the fears rip thru my head: loose skid plate? That diy headlight bracket? Did the shop forget to torque the lug nuts yesterday?? OH NO! It must be a cv or the steering rack — Or my transmission is about to assplode!!!

Nope turns out it’s a small rock — about the size of a jelly bean — rattling on top of my skid plate. Surely that can’t be the thing causing all that racket. Well, it was.

Quick test drive: Silence. Ima shut up now and call that a win today.

But, when you finally find it, there’s a flood of relief since nothing was truly wrong.

Any change in velocity made that socket roll and clank. Mentally, I could not handle it anymore. It was ruining my life. I found the socket with a strong magnet and dragged it into a nook and left the magnet there.

I bought a Toyota pickup years ago that I somehow missed the sound of a marble rolling back and forth in the rocker panel on the test drive. It was subtle but literally every time I’d accelerate or declerate… whirrrrrrrrr-clunk.

Once I noticed it, totally impossible to unhear. Eventually I was able to identify my nemesis with a dental mirror peering through one of the interior holes. And being made of glass, a magnet couldn’t fish it out.

I ended up squirting some grease into the area to catch and trap it..

My 200 is high miles, the paint has seen better days and if I’m being honest it’s my winter beater/offroader/tower. Well my adhd got the better of me as my paint on my bumper is some of the worst of it and it’s got some damage from a previous owner… so I long wanted to do something about it. I’d love TCC bumper but it’s just hard for me to justify. All other bumpers you keep some of that plastic which I’ve never liked. So off to ChatGPT I went. I came up with a low profile light weight set up after some tinkering. Well a friend convinced me to start down the journey and here we are with phase 1. I can always pivot to something else if I don’t end up liking it so I’m not crazy concerned.
