If that is a 555 branded ball joint? Those things are not painted at all and get surface rust in no time at all.
You got it right. What y’all used to paint that?

I just spent the better part of 3 days replacing front wheel bearings (including races) and new OEM brake rotors and calipers (while I’m in there, right?). Look at those races! I was actually happy to see this - I had a subtle rotational noise and vibration I could feel in the floor boards and pedals. Figured it was bearings and holy cow! Inner races were all fine but I outers were both trashed. I assume these are original with 210k miles. No records of if/when repacking was done. Looking forward to the test drive soon!

Those are the worst races I've seen in a minute!

Put the scan gauge in today. Ever since I’ve been running the Rock Warriors with 285 70 17 BFG KO2s my speedometer has been off by 5 mph. The scan gauge lets you recalibrate so you can get an accurate reading. I dialed it in with the GPS app on my phone. 16.8 mpg running 65 mph. Not bad, but I can get to 17-18 mpg on cruise control.

Any old primer and paint would do. I spray them with Rustolem and then couple of weeks later I coat them with Cosmoline (because I always cover everything under the truck with cosmoline!)

I love the smell of cosmoline. When I could afford to build AKs from parts kits I loved cleaning the cosmoline off.

waited (clearly) far too long to do the heater T replacement.

now that the boring stuff is out of the way.

I also installed my Dissent Skid plates. I primed and painted the front skid Rustoleum Textured Black that matches the powder-coat on the rest of the bumpers. love how the skid ties into the Dissent front bumper.

I have a Yugo RPK parts kit that you can clean the cosmoline off for me. I've been dreading it.
I would be glad to clean it off. I just happen to have a Recreator M72 80% receiver on my bench.

Here is the one I built for my son a few years ago.

Very nice! I have a Childers 80% shipping in tomorrow for my M72. I just need to pick up the barrel and rivets.

So simple, yet so happy. Replaced the rear hatch and hood struts. Both actually go all the way up and start with some pop. No more being concerned with the slow fall!
You know my rear hatch requires that I use some muscles to push it up. Wonder if new struts for the back will help

It absolutely will... Like suspension you don't realize how bad it is until you replace it. Found the rears for $90 and after I saw what a difference those made decided the hood was next. Mine is 20 years old so not too surprising items like this need to be replaced.

I'll give it a go thanks

My 01 LX had a bunch of switch lights that weren't working so I ordered some T3 and T4.2 bulbs. Getting original bulbs from Lexus or Toyota proved fruitless and very expensive. I replaced the outer mirror switch bulb (T4.2), rear quarter window bulb (T3), hazard bulb and 4x4 bulb (T4.2), PWR & 2nd bulbs (T3). I used the green condoms from the old bulbs on the new ones. Everything is now lit up for the 1st time in I don't know how long.

I also replaced the halogen headlights with white, LED lamps. These are awesome! Can't believe that I can see the road at night now. The yellow halogen bulbs were pretty close to worthless for night time driving. Found that the left headlight needed horizontal adjustment, so took care of that as well. I may go back and rewire the lamps to minimize wiring inside the dust cap. I don't want to risk the heat of the LED melting wiring. Not sure if this is an issue or not, but it is a point of concern.

Wife-“Honey, do you want to watch the Masked Singer?”

Me-“Ih honey, I have a lot of parts to clean for the timing belt job”
