You gotta clean the mounting surface good, then the 3m tape from that strip will stick. Also for good measure, i drilled a couple holes and used tiny zip ties to keep mine up. No chance of them falling off now. FWIW i had my last one mounted the same way unleashd did his now, i used good brand clear packing tape to also secure it and it didn't fall off for 2 years and counting, new owner has her now.
I cleaned up the surface with Isoprpyl alcohol really nicely before I stuck them on.

Sweating intensifies.

I see an alternator replacement in my future. Lucky for me I already have a spare.

Halfway there. Didn't remove radiator or shroud, kinda regret that lol. If I had to do it again I'd go out the side thru fender liner.

Gives me a good opportunity to clean 20 years of grime and ps fluid off the engine.

I changed mine last week. Pulled the fan and it was easy.

Well I didn't do anything new to the rig, but I did order parts, yay more parts !!!

Seriously, I think I'm just about done rebuilding the front-end. I had issues with loose tie rod ends and broken joints. There was fluid leaking from the tie rods and the whole undercarriage is full of dried up grease everywhere, couple that with the fact that steering racks are usually at end of life (at least mine seems to be) around my mileage (230k) and just didn't want to deal with it later. So, in for a penny, in for a pound and here's what I ordered:

- Steering rack (OEM)
- Tie rods (inner/outer - 555)
- Ball joints (upper/lower - 555)

So it's hurry up and wait now... Thank you guys for all your valuable input...🤙

You're gonna love the way she drives after it's all tightened up, I guarantee it!

How do the 555 joints hold up over time?

How do the 555 joints hold up over time?
No clue, first time using them but they're supposed to be from the same company that makes parts for Toyota as far as I know. I'll report back...

The OEM rack comes with new inner TREs installed, so you won't need those.

ETA: I agree with the above sentiments that you'll love the way it drives! I just finished replacing the last wear items in my steering/suspension, and it's making me really happy!

I installed lower BJs on my 98. They lasted only about 30k miles. But those were 30k rough miles.

Nice, I did feel a difference even after I replaced the axles. Felt more solid. Looking forward to having it all done.

As for the rack, man I really hate ordering parts 🤣 I was so confused with all the different compatible part #s in the end that I just ordered a tie rod kit. I read that the latest part number for the rack didn't include the inners. In any event at least I'm sure to have all the parts I need and hope I can return or resell if I end up with extra inner rods.

You won’t regret doing it all at once. I shoulda done the rack when I had everything else torn out, but was putting $3k into it then. At least I’m at 260k…

I'm sure you'll have no trouble selling them on here if you don't need them. If you're not familiar with Partsouq.com yet, put in your VIN on there. Their Toyota parts diagrams are very complete, and the boxes around the assemblies make it easy to see what's included under the assembly part number.

True story. When I did the LCA bushings this week, I was not impressed with myself for having not done them WIWIT.
