True, good point. I think the quick deployment and keeping people dry is the key. I still can't seem to commit to one. I'll be the one getting soaked while everyone laughs and I set this up.

Naw, those work great man! Anything to keep you out of the mountain weather in a pinch. I still roll with a tarp for just that occasion.

@JohnnyOshow22 is that Noble Lake?
Nope, that is lower boulder lake. Noble is probably still blocked by snow as it's a bit higher. I was eyeballing the snow depth chart on Gaia hard before we went up there and it was spot on, south side of the lake snowed in, north side where we were there was none

Mounted up a small awning for my shower enclosure. Heading out for a bit. I’ll have pics of it setup when I’m back in a couple weeks.

Went to Carson City NV to hang out with my parents and work on my dad's 60 for the long weekend. He has a turbo'd 1HZ in his 60 and has had many battles with overheating for years and years because the 1HZ cannot handle the boost being IDI and not designed for turbocharging. He finally pulled the nuclear option and bought a 1HDT to swap in. So he and my brother yanked the HZ and got a bunch of things ready for me to show up. I showed up Friday and Saturday we swapped the connecting rod big end bearings (BEB's) for new ones, changed injectors, glow plugs, water pump, timing belt, swapped turbo/exhaust manifold over and set injection pump timing. BEB on cyl # 2 was hammered but luckily there was no damage done to the crank, the BEB's are a common issue on 1HDT's. Sunday we put the engine back in the engine and then drank beer! 🍻

Did some exploration in Helena a couple of days ago and took my son of his first real camping trip in the hills. We met up with a couple of guys at Montana Fabrication. My son admired some of the vehicles (yes I almost disowned him for liking the jeep...

Then he found one of these cool things:

Then we found one of these:

We went out and saw some beautiful views (I could not get my panorama to load up.... video link is below)

Then we set up camp and enjoyed the woods:

Started my drawer Version 2.0 redo today... main objective was to improve a few things about the original design and swap out my 20 gallon water tank for a 7 gallon tank and use the extra space to hard mount my 10" sub.

Here is what I am starting with, it has been a good setup that served me well. I just don't need that much water for the amount of time I can get away to play.

How does that water tank work? Is there a pump in it? Your build has got me contemplating some things.

Yeah I use a little pump to a marine faucet. Feel free to swing by and check it out. It is out of the truck till Wednesday night

Nice water setup, I'd like to mount something similar up under where the spare tire used to be on my 100. I ended up just mounting a Waterport to the rear bumper swing out instead. Only 4 gallons but it can be pressurized and it's usually good enough.

That clay is like grease when wet!

Glad you got out. I’ve heard people just camp an extra day or three if they get caught back in there with that mud.

Another trick is burying your spare tire as an anchor but I’m glad you managed!

wait till it builds up in your wheel wells and the tires won't turn. that gumbo is the most God awful stuff to clean up. one of my favorite part of the state.

No way I was getting the spare out from under the truck, I also don't think I could have dug a hole big enough, as soon as you got through the mud layer it was super hard.

Tested out the new tires, fresh spark plugs and oil in my rig yesterday. Little bear over to storm castle. Fun easy trail with lots of great views and discovered a filled in old Mica Mine. Cleared a low hanging fallen tree also on the trail with my trustee machete saw. Billy gives his approval of the new seat covers too.

the old mica mine, that's a fun trail that when it gets a little snow on it the p factor increases exponentialy

Made it to Solid Axle Summit with a bunch of old Cruisers over the last week.

Highlights included Imogene Pass, Engineer Pass, and Flaming Gorge (in WY).

Really enjoyed driving down through Wyoming and Utah (vs the "fast" route of passing through SLC).

So I took my youngest son (13) out to change the oil in the ‘82 FJ40 this evening. While removing the oil filter we noticed these cracked hoses. This pic is from after removing and replacing the oil filter so the fluid is likely from my removal of old filter. Anyway, can anyone tell me what these hoses are for and how easy/difficult they are to change? Thanks in advance cruiser heads! 2F

Mitch
