What engine oil are you running?

Mobil 1 is no longer group 4

Unless the goal is to argue the exact differences of oils, who really cares how it's made? Loads of oil tests have shown that the 1FZ is very easy on oil and Mobil One works very well in them. Last time I checked it's about the same price as Rotella syn and is good oil for the job.

I run Mobil One, 15-50W and a small filter. Don't see the point of the larger filter, it's only advantage would be more junk capacity before plugging up. Have cut a bunch of 1FZ filters open and have yet to find anything in them, they run very clean. Most motor wear happens at cold start, when setting oil drains back into the pan, when started the air bubble is pumped out delaying oil delivery to the bearings. Most of this air is in the filter, larger filter equals more under lubricated time with each cold start. So the extra debris capacity is not needed and more wear from cold starts with the large filter is probably why Toyota changed to the smaller filter.

So it is or is not what it used to be? Mobile1 synthetic oil that is.

Also, still wondering if anyone knows of a good (internet or national) source for Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic.

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40 year-round.

Been running my car for over a week now, with a 700 mile round journey at a constant 70-90 mph and still starts up without any start up rattle at all, I am quite amazed as I have used atleast 6 different types of oil in my engine over the past 5 years, I still use the normal large Toyota filter that I have always used, as that is the only one that can be purchased here in the UK

so M1 10W-40 seems to be what most people are using?

I guess ill start running that

Do you have any evidence to support your claims, or are you just repeating unsubstantiated garbage.

Mobil M is not fully synthetic it's just a standard grade oil

Mobil Super M 10W-40 and 15W-40

That is not a US oil, nor is Mobil 1 which is Mobil's synthetic oil.

I run Supertech 0w-20 in my truck and change it every 1500 miles. If you believe that, go read the oil faq.

For those looking for Shell Rotella 5w-40, prices at Checker/Kragen/Shucks has been $17 per gallon, better than Wally World's $22.

I've started running the Mobile 1 10-40 high mileage and noticed my consumption went down for the first 3000 miles, though I think now it's actually getting worse. I really need to fix my leaking oil pan. It's leaking in the front and back now. My though it, this is where my oil is going. It doesn't leak much while sitting (a couple drops at most) but I think the leak increases while the truck is driving.

Derek-I've been running that as well in my 80. I'm just coming up on 5000 miles and have no consumption at all. I also have higher pressure on the factory moving needle thingy for what that's worth. I'm going to keep running it.

Then as you stated there is absolutely no point in you spending extra for Synth. You would just be throwing money down the drain.

Cary (or others), I'm curious why offroading makes such a difference. Is it the heat? I think of so much wheeling as slow going, low reving, and I don't see how oil would suffer from contaminants (mud, dust, water) more than in other driving.

Also, to clarify, when folks refer so frequently to Rotella I assume they mean the syn and not the dino version.

Curious
