What does FJ stand For???

J= for Japan just like in all there other early suff.
As far as I know.

Yep, engine identification is the first letter (F, B, H, O, etc.) and J for the jeep-type body style (Land Cruiser). The OJ-40 series were produced in Brazil until the year 2000, so the J isn't for Japan (I think). Thus, it's for the Land Cruiser body code, because on the earlier trucks (not sure of name) they called them the FA series, so they had an F engine and the A stood for that particular truck model. This comes from Toyota:


"The FJ Cruiser derives its name from the 1950's Toyota Land Cruiser, which arrived in the United States in 1958.
The "F" is a reference to that early 50's engine series type and the "J" refers to the body style of the 1950's 4 Wheel Drive Land Cruiser vehicle.
To preserve the lineage and heritage of that vehicle, Toyota combined the two elements: hence today's FJ Cruiser."

I guess that rules out the J for Japan theory, which didn't make a lot of sense anyway since to the Japanese Japan is Nihon.

The full model number for my vehicle is BJ40RV-KCQ.

B=motor series
J=production line
40=series
R=right hand drive
V= hardtop
K=4 speed
C=swingout (ambulance) doors
Q= Australia (market)

Can't remember where I got this info but it is probably from my big "Genuine Toyota Workshop Manual".

ha ha so are there any distiguishing letters or numbers for 40's with factory PTO winches or other extras?

All I can say is "Probably". - I've searched my workshop manuals, and even the Owners Manual and Service Booklet that came with the vehicle when new. Yet I can't find the source of the information I recorded about my vehicle.

So unfortunately I'm unlikely to be able to answer further questions on what letters mean what.
