Two months ago, my tire on my DD blew out near Yakima and it helped me decide on new wheels. I went with the 70 series wheels from @beno and toyo MTs based on good feedback from @lechnito.

It feels like a totally different truck since the change. The 255/85 are perfect with the H55F. To quote @lechnito, “It feels like I’m riding around on top of a unicorn.”
Will the stock center caps for the wheels work with the 70 series wheel?

Refurbished my mud flaps. After

Weather has stunk for getting much done outside lately here in CT. Rain, snow, now s***ty 12* weather, just stinks. Today I pulled the starter after doing what I could testing the wires and man I thought my thumb was gonna drop off from frost bite. Then did my first bench test of the starter with jumper cables and the battery (resting 12.5) in my kitchen with my kid watching. A quick few sparks and a few yelps from me until I understood what I was seeing. Big pat on my back. One of these days this stuff won't freak me out so much. No pixs since I was the one holding the positive cable. He'd vouch for me.
Also been steadily getting my stock rims cleaned up and ready for some BFG's 31x10.5x15's I picked up used. Truck is gonna be a ton more manageable without the monster 35x12.5x15 its sitting on.

When reinstalling I noticed a slight gap between the flaps and the contour of the body. This is thick rubber which I thought distortion wouldn' take place. Also I had the flaps inside the warm house all night. What gives?
There should be black sealant, like used to secure the mylar (?) inner door cover, between the flap and body. The same stuff, or similar, used to seal the windshield. Photos:

On Christmas, we took the 60 to Sugarite Canyon State Park near Raton NM. Had a tailgate lunch, took a hike and found some leaf fossils.

It was a fine day.

Love to see the leaf fossils!

I could get good close-ups with a Canon 35mm film camera and the right lens. Not so much with the digital unit I use now. I'll see what I can do.

Wow, I’m so envious! They’re beautiful!

Thanks. We are rockhounds and finding fossils is real treat.

We just bought this place and are finding fossil ammonites the previous owner collected. They were using them as landscaping rock. One of them is big.

Awesome! I love finding cool rocks, wood and other funky things while out hiking. My gf calls me a magpie cuz I have a variety of rusty metal things around my yard too.

I always end up with a backyard full of interesting rocks & etc.

There is a type of rock called leaverite. Meaning it is best to "leave her right" where you found it instead of dragging it home to add to the pile.

Ah yeah that would have been a good name for a large flat shale one I have by my fireplace loaded w/ garnet nuggets but I just couldn’t bare to leave her right there!

Mary found a polished rock along the Arkansas river in CO. It contains a bunch of pinhead size garnets. Can't bear to part with that one.

Behind on posting. The weekend before last we visited Capulin Volcano National Monument which is about 30 miles from here. Its is part of the Raton-Clayton Volcanic Field and last erupted about 60,000 years ago. The Wikipedia article has a good shot of Capulin from the air:

Raton-Clayton volcanic field - Wikipedia

The terrain here is dominated by mesas. The mesas are covered by an erosion resistant layer of igneous rock which came from a bunch of volcanoes in the area. Where the lava flows were absent, the mesas are cut by canyons.

Still playing catch-up. Two weekends ago we took the 60 to Cimmaron Canyon Sate Park NM. The Palisades area is very scenic. There are some very nice State campgrounds in the canyon.

Frost flowers on Cimmaron Creek. The longest tendril (center of photo) is about 3 inches long:
