My weekend project

:) Just completed one weekend project. Good thing is I have parts coming on the UPS truck wednesday for the 62. Would like the 62 to make the september trip and at least get the thing in four wheel drive this year.

I appreciate it. Looks like you guys had fun over the weekend. I am hoping to get some things done so I can do more than just attend meetings. Looking to get add a leafs on with new spring bushings and u-bolts. Got tons of other little things/details. Got some 31 mud terrains on the 62 last week and need to change over to the R134 as well. Lots on the plate.

I opted to take a ride north today to do a little leaf gazing and back roads exploring.

My Weekend Project

This past weekend I [finally] installed my rear spare tire carrier on the Tacoma! Had it fabricated in VA, and to save money I had it delivered locally to family up there. My folks stopped by last wknd on their way to FL (snowbirds) to personally deliver. Dad even stuck around on Saturday to help with the install. We had a helluva time getting the old hitch off. Had to run the truck by Meineke near GA Tech to get two of the bolts torched. I picked up a couple of shackles and a hi-lift from Tractor Supply in Dawsonville and had them at the ready for the install. That was the icing on the cake once everything went on the truck, and it really sets it off. It fits great - just need to trim the tube channel which holds the spare on. It sticks out a few inches too far. Once I find a decent 33" spare and a rim to match the other 4, I'll set about trimming the channel. For now, I have my OEM spare with my unlit license plate zip tied to it, until the FJ40 OEM rear license plate mount arrives in the mail. AND, my OEM license plate bulbs nervously dangling beneath the truck! Would love to post a pic of all of this, but since I'm a newbie, I have to spend some more time on here first. If you're at the chapter meeting at Fuddrucker's next week, I'd be happy to show it off! BTW, there's a nice black single cab Taco with expo gear on his ride that I see around Decatur on occasion. I know there's a lot of cross pollination between this group and the TTORA folks, so if anyone is familiar with this guy - let me know. Would be cool to connect with other neighborhood enthusiasts who might have more tools in their garage than I do. :D

Rookie Graduate

I think I've managed to figure out how to manage my [temporary] allotment of photos. Here's an attempt at posting a pic of the new rear bumper installed on the truck.

Looks good dude!

I'm always nervous when I see guys mount their hi-lift on a bumper...just afraid someone would rear end it and bend it - maybe being bright red it helps folks to not rear end you! ha!

Ha - Yeah I'm hoping the red draws their attention. I suppose I could always put an LED flashing arrow on the spare pointing to it along with a sign that says, "DON'T HIT ME!"

But in Atlanta, you're always living on borrowed time. It'll get crunched, it's only a matter of time. That's why I carry good insurance. :-)

Before I had the spare tire carrier installed I was still running a replacement bumper from getting crunched by a young girl (18ish) driving a Saturn wedge car. I also had the hitch installed, and when she hit me she went completely under my truck and lifted me into the air. The hitch opened her hood from headlights to wipers like a sardine can. Not pretty!

lets see

started truck (note need battery and must fix turn signal) and drove to home depot to get more stuff for a 5th grade school project AND passed out candy to various demons, :princess: and harry potter look alikes.:):)

Okefenokee!

Test fitted the kayak on the roof for an upcoming paddling and camping trip to Okefenokee! Thank God for REI. I looked everywhere for Rubbermaid Action Packers and they're the only retailer around I could find who carries them.

If anyone's interested in Okefenokee, I believe there are some spots available. Check on http://www.gaconservancy.org to find out. Think the price is reasonable: about $125? If you don't have your own boat there are canoes available, and they are included in the registration cost.

Yeah apparently the camera's more afraid of the mud than the truck. Trust me - no trailer queen/just a DD here - it's been plenty dirty. Seems by the time it's hit the car wash, I've got my camera out again. I've apparently been timing my photos wrong. ;)

didn't do much this weekend but pick up a few misc parts from Troll's parts swap, it was a good time for sure. :D

But, thought I'd share today's little adventure. Doing what I do i see some weird stuff, but thought this one was worth sharing. Do you ever wonder where your old carpet and pad goes to die? Well I found the place, a 5K' warehouse in Tucker stacked floor to ceiling with some of the nastiest old carpet and crap you can possibly imagine. Business is so good they're expanding to 10K'.:eek::eek::eek:

I can tell just by looking at how they've stored that s*** in there that the fire protection system (if any) is fully inadequate for how and what there storing in there. If that place catches on fire run for your life.
