Build What did you do to your Land Cruiser/Toyota/Lexus 4X4 this week?

I drove 1200mi to Death Valley and back and only maintenance item was replacing my DS brake light bulb, which based on forensic picture analysis seems to have broken the filament between Teakettle Junction and The Racetrack - go figure. Total cost $4.99, and I have a spare on standby (sold in pairs).

It is amazing that we did not break more filaments on this trip with all the washboards roads we were running at a decent rate of speed.

I think I rattled out some fillings from my teeth.

You should have experienced the ride in an 80, the good news is Tea Kettle Junction is now decorated by CSC. Thanks again Brice and Tina for the copper kettle donation.

Installed new rear shocks to match the new front shocks, changed the oil, tightened a squeaky belt, and removed the sway bars.

New exhaust from the dual cats back: 2.5" pipes so she can breathe and a Dynomax muffler.

850j's +25mm up front, 863 rears and 35's on MT Classic wheels.

Cheapo rear LED light to illuminate a camping spot, mounted on extra antenna mount.

New power steering pump, front rotors and pads, and new windshield. Now she doesn't leak or squeak, yet the rear view mirror mounting screw dissolved during removal. Mine is the non ball bearing mount. Either need to procure a new screw and backing plate or machine a new screw to remount the mirror. Screwy.
Any other suggestions or tips?

LCP and I took a long weekend last weekend and went to Anza Borrego. Alot of interesting sites, people, and things (is that a ufo?!) and Mountian biked into the Goat trestle bridge - the largest trestle bridge in the world which contruction started in 1914 for travel between San Diego and Yuma. We passed through 7 tunnels and saw several abandoned rail cars on the way.
Next day was Borrego Springs and the many sculptures. Many of these are as big as a small house and it took all day to locate and photograph about all 50 of them.
Camped in some interesting places, went 4 wheeling up Coyote Canyon and hiked the following day up a steep ravine up to a natural spring surrounded by mature palm trees and waterfalls. I think Phil is back there again this weekend with the CA guys checking out the Mud caves.
A great time and worth checking out!

start of the trekto the bigest bridge. This was due to the tunnel caving in forcing the engineers to build this large bridge. There are several trestle bridges along the way but this is the biggest of them all.

one tunnle was about 100 yards long and couldnt even see the exit opening for quite some time. We brought led headlights and appreciated the 68 degree coolness of the interior of the train tunnels. There were variations of lining. Some had large redwood timbers, some had gunnite (applied in the later years), while others were lined with metal sheets.

The bridge was breathtaking - then on to the sculptures. For reference, I couldnt see over the back of the grasshopper. notice the Land Cruiser helping the Jeep over the obstacle...

fun time!

What's your thoughts I the exhaust? Happy with the results?

Well, it is only 3 days old, so not much to say yet. I got it to keep engine temps down on long grades (highway), and I have not really encountered any yet. It does feel a little peppier from 2100 rpm upwards, and shifting somehow feels crisper (?) But, some of this may just be in my head, or do to the warmer days we have been having. The sound is fine with windows up (quiet, like I wanted), and sounds like a faint Dynomax with the windows down. Not like a V8 at a all. So, I guess I am not at all disappointed, but time will tell if it does what I want.

Finally got around to upgrading my wiring with a relay bank and one for the Puma. Of course, I had to move EVERYTHING around to make it fit but it was worth it. Also incorporated 3 more waterproof relays and a fuse block under the hood. Waiting on a handful of OEM switches and then I can turn on all these relays! Now I only need LIGHTS and lots of em.

Nice, I'm going to have to take the bike out there. I've seen pictures before, but just never made it a priority. I think I'm sold.
