I have not noticed. Is that common?
I had a Cruiser (don’t remember which one) that had the same issue. Both the temp and fuel gauge would spike at the same time and both would return to their normal position at the same time. Ended up being a grounding issue. I believe the two gauges shared a common power / grounding source.
Hope that helps.

Might be a grounding issue. I think the gauge will spike into the red if you ground the sending unit wire.
Yep, could be the reason. The temp sensor actually is a heat-sensitive resistor (typically around 280ohm at ambient, going to about 55ohm at 120°C).
If the sender cable gets grounded, the gauge may just max out.

I ordered a new sensor and I’ll wire in a dedicated VDO gauge to see what’s going on. Wiring looks ok to me

Enjoying driving the BJ73 daily. The 3B-T is running good and as time goes by I get better at fixing what ails it. SC lowcountry no hills and no interstate daily so it's easy. Considering something nicer/more civilized in the future perhaps a KZJ78..
I'd trade you a kzj78! JK sort of. I love the bj73 land cruisers I think I would have gone for one if I could have found one when I was looking. I guess I was not quite patient enough. Although I do love my kzj78. Its much more unique in the states than the old fj80. Are you in NC or SC?

Will send you a pm.

Fabricated a little bracket for the Noco Genius Gen5 charger/maintainer. After a dead battery issue I did some research. Thanks to all the recommendations on here I picked one up. The old Battery Tender was still working, but not great with dual batteries and the whole metal cage ground vs high side battery problem.

You're gonna have to find some 10mm flared brake end fittings... and some brake line. You bend your own, copying the original shape. A little tube bender and a flaring tool will be needed as well. Wish you were close by, I could help you do it in about 30 minutes.

If you can't source the parts/tools yourself, perhaps there is a hydraulics shop near by who could help.
I had a local farming machinery shop reproduce that brake line across the front axle. Paid 90 bugs.
But it didn't work out. They applied the wrong flare shape. It is 8.2mm wide, while the original is 7.0mm. The original also is conic outside, while theirs is square.
>> Does anybody happen to know the industry standard that was applied in 1985 BJ brake line flares? Shape SAE F, E or what?
Looking at pictures, I can't really tell.
I'm so 😞

Left: Reproduced Part
Right: Original part.

If your male and female fittings will thread together and match they can usually form a imperfect flare to proper shape if it's not too far off.

I believe it is SAE double flare with 10mm x 1.0 “Asian” nuts.

Thank you.
I did some more Google and compare yesterday evening and came to the same result. This is called 'Type E' in Germany.
I found no evidence for any variation in that type E, also not historically. Not much chances the shop got the wrong shape.
The nuts went from wrench size 10 to 11 for M10x1.0 but that's it.
Look how uneven the reproduced flare is. I believe, it was just poorly done.
By the way: A piece of straight brakeline with premade Type E flares in the length needed (875mm) is 12€. Available via Amazon.
So much for: "Rather pay a bit more and give it to experts" Will talk to the shop in an hour.

The female part is the main brakeline distributer on the diff. Cast iron, I guess. I torqued it down as much I dared, but it was still leaking 1 drop per 2 sec, even without pressure applied! No chance.
I hope I didn't mess up the female end....

If they can use that copper/nickel tubing, it is softer and might form a better seal with the female part.

@svsisu Nice we had some good waves last weekend from the noreaster we had. I saw lots of people who were flying through this salt water. I saw a jeep go like 30mph through like 2 feet of salt water. I bet it will be a rust stain in a year. I had a photo but I cant get it to upload right now. But we got lots of flooding from that.

It’s both fun and irritating to look at sales brochures for vehicles you can‘t have. 😊

I think the Hilux is better-looking than the Tacoma.

I think the Hilux is better-looking than the Tacoma.

And cheaper too (at least in Mexico). I am surprised they still offer the Hilux there with 100% of the Tacoma production being down there.
