When I was younger and far less sensitive, there were toll booths near Richmond Va and you had to pay 50 cents or a quarter or something to get along.
I would use the rearview to gauge the person behind me in the line and when I rolled up to pay, I would hand the attendant double, saying "I am paying for my uncle (or aunt or cousin) right behind me. He's deaf."
Pulling away slowly I'd watch the toll person waving the driver through while that person tried to hand the money over. The best part was when the driver would try to catch up to me to see who I was.
Cheap thrills.

I had 2 aunts and 2 uncles that were deaf from birth. I tried to learn basic sign language but just writing things on a pad seemed to work better.

Nah. I just find most people hard to talk to face to face because my hearing is really bad (was born with over 80% hearing loss). Even more so with face masks. (Can't lip read).

As for why I don't use ASL as my first language. It is a a long story but short version is that my parents did not want to use it. So that is that......

Hear you. That was a reference for myself as sometimes all we want is to be invisible for whatever reason.

Pulled apart my master switch to investigate the sudden loss of function in 3 windows. The pictures say it all.

Hello,

I just had time to respond today. I experienced a similar problem recently.

The system relies on a number of contacts and, with the driver's window, some spring contacts. Over time, carbon builds up in the contact points and hinders proper function.

Chances are your switch will not pass the continuity test because of the carbon.

I have marked some of the carbon deposits in your switch.

The arrow indicates the spring (leaf spring?) contacts.

It is possible to clean the carbon build up with contact cleaner and a Q-tip. This will restore proper contact for a while.

The spring contacts are another story. They fatigue over time and fail to make contact, thus leaving the circuit open. You can re-arch them to restore function but it is temporary.

By now you probably know that putting the WINDOW LOCK button back together is a royal PITA.

You can have the contacts cleaned and the springs re-arched until you find a replacement. In the meantime, try using your windows as little as possible.

Hope this helps.

My parents viewed ASL as very limiting socially and didn't want me to be only limited to those that knew ASL in the real world so again that is why I don't use it as a first language. There are times where I do use it but it is usually only with other deaf people. There was a time when I was using it daily when I had four deaf roommates in college but that isn't the case now.

I am not sure if this happens everywhere but sometimes in a restaurant or store, a deaf person would come in and pass out these little trinkets or something they made like a bracelet or something and ask for a small donation on an attached card stating they are deaf. One time this happened to me while I was eating in a Whataburger so I decided to do some sign language to get to know him and he didn't know any at all and left quickly. I guess he was a fraud.

Anyways, sorry for the off topic chat. We can get back to 70 series cruiser talk now.

Finished spraying paint on the BJ73 today. Not happy with the results. I had very good results spot painting with the HVLP detail gun spraying cheap rustoleum enamal thinned with NAPTHA which can be wet sanded and buffed out to a beautiful finish. I was spraying white on white not exact color match, but OK to cover up rock dents and trail damage. Rustoleum however is not sold tintable. I bought a gallon of XO rust brand from true value that is tintable and color matched it to toyota 637 OLIVE . Color looks good. Paint doesn't spray on smooth like rustoleum and doesn't dry/harden like rustoleum. If you thin the paint enough to spray and lay out smooth it runs terribly. After 3 days if you push it with your finger it still will leave a fingerprint. I'm going to have to wet sand and buff the entire vehicle. Not sure how long I will have to wait to do this. This paint is not hardening/drying like normal. Runs are still gummy/soft after 3 days.
There is alot of great information on the internet about people who have sprayed a car with rustoleum and had great results, especially after cut and buff. This cannot be assumed/applied to true value XO rust, or similar alkyd enamels.

Having some issues with fueling with the 12HT in my Troopy. Posted a thread in the Diesel Tech / 24V section. If anyone has thoughts on that, could you chime in on that thread? Thanks!

I made/placed this decal on the rear bumper awhile back. Yesterday, a Japanese man came up to me and said he was from that area in the parking lot of my insurance agent's office. He wasn't a land cruiser fan though, just the sticker got his attention.

Why did I make it? It is kind of silly but the paperwork I got with my 77 indicated it was from a Hyogo Toyota dealer so I just made it and printed it out for the bumper. Nothing special.

No, but now that you say it, that's a really good idea - wish I would have tried that first. I would try it on one of the small pieces fist, since these are NLA, and you never know. Mine are already done, so I nominate you as the guinea pig for trying this ;).

I soaked them in a diluted bath of simple green overnight, used a microfiber towel to scrub them, then finished it up with 303. I'll admit, it was a little more labor intensive than I would have preferred, but that was the only thing I found that got deep enough into those little grooves in the texture, and I wanted them looking brand new.

Try a “magic eraser”, works good for me on all interior stuff.

Cheers

Seems like I figured out my issues. Bad fuel looks to be the culprit. Dropping the tank tomorrow and redoing the fuel lines.

Question for the Mud universe: who in the Western US (the closer to NM the better) can be trusted to pull the injection pump and injectors, send them to get rebuilt and then put it all back together properly, with the right timing? I'm over trying to get non-Toyota shops to fumble with stuff and would rather send it out to a shop to get it all buttoned up. I'm comfortable doing most things but fueling is above my patience/pay grade.

I'm thinking Land Cruisers Direct knows the 12HT and could do this. I sent them a contact form request. Any other shops?

Talk to @CenTXFJ60 about your 12HT injection pump. He may have a lead since the 12HT seems to be his favorite motor and runs it in his FJ60 (or I should say HJ61 now?). I know he had his injectors rebuilt for that motor locally in San Antonio where I am.

Robbie at adventure off-road. Formerly in Boulder, now in Longmont CO. He knows these motors. I’ve had only super positive experiences with him, and I doubt you’ll find anyone who’s had otherwise.
A bit of a haul from NM, but not terrible.

Ah that's a lot closer than SLC. Cheers!

I'm in Robbie's inbox now hoping for some time for a once over before heading out on longer range trips this summer w/ peace of mind. Nothing but good things heard and happy to have him locally.

Surf fishing/beach camping tonight in the bj 73. Ran 70mph for 2 hours to the coast without issue. 235 85 16 extra grips ok in the sand. 6oz won't stay put in the surf, too windy. Stretcher for me and troop seat for my little boys bed tonight. Warming up inside the heater on now. I'm going to shut it down and get in the bag soon . Pics tomorrow.
