What did you do on your 70 series today? (29 Viewers)

Looking forward to updates! Unfortunately my seats need covers for the other end of the seat condition spectrum HA. Did you select an OME kit to maintain original height or increase?

I neglected the build thread so I will post up the updates there. I was told it will be 2"-3" increase. Went for the medium duty.

When do you return to Texas?

I am watching your thread so I'll keep an eye out for a notification! That will be great, just enough for some gear and tires without going too high.

Getting confirmation on that now, it will either be End of September, or end of October. Hoping for the former as I have a 77 waiting to leave Japan when I do now! Just taking advantage of parts availability/low cost in the mean time. Surprising what part numbers on partsoug are not available but are available here in Japan.

Picked up these today 😃

Thinking if I should take the third member to a specialist or install it myself. Never did any work on differentials, but I recently rebuilt an R151 following workshop manual, so I guess I can manage if I do the same. Any special tips from the pros ?

Use a solid pinion spacer if you can.

Cheers

You never know when the WalMart parking lot will be slippery. :)

This may not fit with the intent of 'what I did with my 70', but the following are pictures of parts that I had powder coated by ACC / Smoking Gun. Since I am in the process of overhauling the 3B, it made sense to me to bring the exterior of the engine back to reflect the near new status that the engine will be in and I hope make it easier to clean mud/grim off going forward.

70 Series people.

My husband's 70, that I have started driving with some regularity and am thoroughly enjoying, is suddenly developing issues. For example, one part simply "broke off" in his hand as he examined it.

Advice? I want to drive this truck, and not another, before you suggest I buy my own truck.

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

It is common for 70 Series parts to give up the ghost after 20 years. However, this usually happens either at home (in the garage) or close to the shop. Ask me how I know.

Your truck is over 25 years old, so this situation is normal. One good thing is that all the systems/parts were designed to be disassembled, repaired/replaced and reassembled. It is fun to do in my book.

My advice? Have fun replacing parts as they fail. As for sourcing them, you are lucky to have your own personal parts guru: you could not be luckier.

Trying out some sound deadening mat. I'll tackle the dash this weekend. View attachment 2203825
The gray colored "fatigue mat"(normally use on the floor under the feet of someone who has to stand all day) at lowes in the carpet section is awesome. It's a high density foam about 1/2" thick. I lined the floor of my 70" and my old K10 chevy with it. Really quiets down the road noise.

Changed the speedo to an mph version, it was in km/h originally and I changed the dial face but in doing so damaged something as the needle was behaving quite erratic between 30 and 70mph. So I went for a new Mr T unit which is working well now.

With just the dial face changed:

And how it is now after changing the whole speedo unit:
