4.30 Gearing
image.jpeg

That gear is what they found after disassembly?

I chipped a tooth eating popcorn. The repair cost was about the same I bet

Do they know what caused the Ring gear damage ?
How does the Pinion gear look ?
All I know is that the damage didn't occur during the short period I've owned the Ute.
The truck is at the shop and I'm not so that one photo is all I've got.

Today I washed the bed thoroughly after removing the paint, 20 pounds of bondo and the original paint and primer (BTW, anyone knows what kind of primer did Toyota use in the day? It stuck like glue) using paint stripper. Still there are some touch-ups to do but I believe tomorrow I will be priming it. That's the best I could do with the tools I had in hand.

Factory paint sticks like glue and wears like iron.
When I paint, I get the best adhesion on my clothes.

Doing a knuckle rebuild and converting f/w hubs from auto hubs. A lot of differences in the parts all the way back to the knuckle.

Cheers

Thanks for the pictures...
The holes in the back of your truck bed confirm how my spare tire mount is bolted up.

Glad it helped. May I ask, do you have detailed pics of the spare tire mount, I'm thinking about copying the design, since is quite expensive to buy it from the parts vendors online because of the dollar convertion rate.

You are right, the old paints were laquers which deteriorates faster than the newer coating technologies.

Today I primed with epoxy the bed, still have to coat it one more time again.

I am using all factory parts, but have not moved the mount to the truck bed as of yet.

Old vs New. Didn’t know what I was getting myself into and I completely underestimated the time this would take to replace. The old diaphragm had 2 holes in it.

Also changed the fuel filter to a Donaldson model and added some paint to the boost diaphragm and fuel cutoff area. The truck feels really happy.

Took a break from nuts and bolts for awhile and now getting into electrical. It will mostly all be custom besides the CDL and and locker harness.
