I made the rear double cup holder for the 80 and I used a 91 center console, and 94, and a 97Lx (my personal vehicle) to get dimensions. I found zero difference with the later model Toyota and LX 80's. some of the earlier 80's had a hard lid/tray on top and not the padded top. I have that one at my house now. That hard top center console does have a different hinge which forced me to make two versions of the rear center console. At that point I was confident my two versions would work on all 80's center consoles. then yesterday I received a pic from a member who purchased one with a hinge I have never seen. It only has 2 attachment screws for the hinge and no spring, but seems to use the same metal hinge parts as the consoles with the padded top. It's like a hybrid between the two consoles. My thought was this might be a junkyard fix with parts from different years but maybe not. Is this a factory hinge? Do any other 80's owners have this center console hinge? I don't think it should be an issue with my current design, but I do want to know and account for all of the variations. It was on his 96 yota and was there when he bought it?

Here is the LX hinge and is also the same hinge I found on other yota consoles with the padded top. You can see there is a center screw which I put a hole in my design to allow for removal and install.

LX vs LC?

Well, no because one of the guys on my block has an LC but has the spring. I helped him install his rear cup holder. Only reason I know.

:hmm: Dunno. I don't remember having the spring on my '94 (without the "2nd" door). A friend is borrowing my truck so don't have it to verify.

So another 96. Is it possible that only the 96's didn't get the spring and the center screw or is this throughout all years? Anyone with a 96 WITH the springs and 3rd screw?

i have a 96..it does not have a spring!

I've had a '91, '92 (parts truck), and now a '93 HDJ81, I've never seen one with the spring as shown above, all mine were the same style as you're asking about.

What does the spring do?

I should have pics of my '94 in the next hour or so. Will post up its secrets.

The first pic is what my 92 looks like.

Two screws and no spring on my 9/95 production Oak interior US spec 1996 model FZJ80

The ones without the spring, do they all have the two screws and not the 3 on the bottom of the hinge?

It ain't factory fellas.

Some sort of field-fix.

Edit for clarity: This is not found in Land Cruisers, only LX450.

so apparently I need to get my hands on another center console. I am a little perplexed by the randomness of this spring option and why Toyota even did that. Any socal guys that have a center console without the spring willing to allow me to bring a rear double cup holder over to do some test fitting and possible measurements? Preferably in the IE area.
