What Cat should I use !

I agree that the engineers had compelling reasons to put 2 cats on in the early '90s, but there has been a bunch of cat development in the last decade. The newer cat designs are much more efficient, if the 80 were designed today it would probably only have one?

My plan is to run one 54906 and leave room to add a second if needed. I have seen a bunch of 80s here in AZ with only one aftermarket cat, thay don't set codes and pass emissions.

I have run my cat for a solid few months now and no issues. Love it.

That post has pics and part numbers. I only had to drop the slider on that side to allow them to work.

I passed emissions here with flying colors (OBD test only on a 96).

Can you run a 95 without cat and not effect how the engine runs?

Relying on Dan's advice, I used the same cat (just one) on mine and it has been problem-free so far.

To come back to this thread, I'm now running a single 59956 and my exhaust smells alot less ... potent sitting in traffic. My floorboards are still decently warm as well, but no worries as I'll be hitting that with SecondSkin product in a while. Clearance was not greatly improved though.

Just wanted to show off the system I had put on this week. The cat is a Magnaflow 94034 with dual 2" in and one 2 1/2" out. It is rated for a Dodge 360(!) It tucks up really nicely and still allows the exhaust to go over the frame.
One thing I am thinking about doing is removing the PAIR valves and moving the O2 sensors to the AIR inlet locations, the sure would be easier to get too!!
Anyone doing this already?

Heres the system BTW, complete, installed for $450, well worth it.

Do you still have the factory sensors in place? If so, I assume you are not throwing codes. Are you running the rest of the system up and over? If so, what muffler are you using?

Correct, just cut out the old cats and welded in the new one. No codes, same basic routing, factory muffler.

The exhaust note changed ever so slightly and feels a little less restricted; but no seat-of-your-pants gain or anything worth changing for. But less noxious fumes, and slightly better clearance; that is worth it!

Take a look at Borla too. I have borla set up, and love the sound of it.

Not yet - 1st step was to get the cats out of the way so I can finish my slider project. I don't wheel hard - figured I'd go up and over when the muffler itself goes out.

Thanks, well I ordered one today. It looks SO NICE on yours.:)

Same plans, install for slider project then custom cat-back for the up over and through (the bumper).;)

I can't wait!

Keith,

My 93 needs exactly what you have. Thats a nice clean setup! What kind of muffler are you using what is the noise like over stock? Any issues with heat on the floorboards where the pipe goes over the frame I know some have melted carpet?

Thanks
George

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. The shop that did the work has had all my business for the past twenty years, they know I will rip an exhaust system off if it isn't tucked up high and secured well.
The muffler is just an off the shelf unit from the shop, it is a dual chamber, but i think it is a little loud.
I have no heat issues with this install, the muffler shop flattened the pipe where it runs over the frame. That, along with the factory heat shield, keep everything cool

ok..so bringing this thread back part II.

does anyone have any sniffer #'s after installing dual magnaflow cats? i guess most places that do smog tests in the US just read OBD's? maybe any cali guys? up here in kanada, we've got a sniffer that measures HC, CO, and NOx at all driving speeds. my truck blew all the max allowable #'s out of the water. its currently got a single cat, from catco. im guessing catco is not oem? im thinking it may be shot.

is im hoping these magnaflow cats work as good as oem. being a 3 way cat...they should be just as good...?
