im sorry im a newb and its a dumb question but i just bought fj55 out of a field and he gave me two extra axles and a extra engine with it and im trying to figure out what i have

Gear ratio, spline count and joint type depend on year.

Although I'm not sure 55s ever came with dogbone axles, which would make them all either course spline or fine spline Birfields..

I'm assuming you mean the "ball and claw" axle when you say "dogbone"? The "ball and claw" ended in '68 I think.

Most '55's were 4:11 ratios and a '70 would have had drums all around if it is stock.

Yeah should be drum, coarse spline, and small knuckle pattern. I would check as see if maybe the extra set of axles was to upgrade the axles they are under the 55. Later years used fine spline, and disks up front.
