I guess what it says in the tital. I guess Im looking more at the destination type trails. I dont have any local favorits yet, I have not had a lot of time for camping in the last few years, but I want that to change.
My favorit trail/destination 4x4 camping place is called Cleghorn bar its on the middle? fork of the Fether River. The best wild trout habbitat Ive seen in CA, unmolested by the throngs, The trail to the camping area is nothing epic, or crazy, but it is a 4x4 trail, and it is fun.

What is your favorite?

?

What about the place Derrick "VCCruiser" went a while back? There was a post with pics, he was on these big granite slabs, amazing views n' stuff. I have not been there obviously but from looking at the pics I sure want to.:hhmm:

I don't know if I would consider it local (this is 15 miles from the entrance to Yosemite on highway 41), but yes, it is an awesome place to camp and the trail to the top is a must do. On the way to the top I passed 2 really nice campgrounds one of which had a nice creek flowing through. Here's the link to that:

Also a link for the trail:

It is a six hour drive from San Diego, one hour east of Fresno.

Pleasant Canyon/South Park in the Panamint Mountains. Great 4x4 trail, views, and a couple a sweet cabins to stay in.

A'men! The whole adopt a cabin deal is pretty darn cool. Thats one heck of a trail too. Long wheelbase rigs are not so good there in my opinion.

Coyote Flats up through the switchbacks. High elevation 11,000 ft, glaciers, Meadows, beauty.

I will have to remember Coyote flats next time I am up visiting my parents for an extended amount of time.

I just did a four day trip to bear creek, below Big Bear. Great fishing, and self suffient camping right on the creek. One of the best things about this spot is it is only an hour and a half from my house and almost all of that is on dirt.

Have any more info on Bear Creek? I googled and all I found was hiking trails.

Bear creek is one of sevral creeks you will cross when you take road 1n09 between the 38 and 128? this is a servise road. It used to be more fun but they recently graded it. On a weekend I would guess that there is normaly one to two people camping there and maybe one or two day tripers. I perfer to go during the week.

The main attraction is the great fishing, all beautiful wild trout. rainbows and golds.

Oh yeah - what's the story on that snake.

Looks like a gopher snake?? Thats a really nice spot, I'll maybe check that out this summer once the kids are out of school... I'm still looking for favorite destination (remote) camping spot.
