What are pro/con of 200 versus 100?

Skeptical suits you.

He hasn't decided on this yet.

So, the purpose of this test was what - personal knowledge, professional resource? Why test them and then not release the findings? And again, under what circumstance did he have both vehicles to compare?

Lets see buy a better looking used LC/LX for 1/2 of what they are asking for a new LC?

I would take the 200 series Land Cruiser over the 100 series especially over the LX. I don't mind if it is twice the price.

1. I don't want a Lexus badge on my SUV
2. 200 has much more interior features
3. I HATE the AHC suspension on the LX470 with a passion
4. 200 series has far less maintenence.
5. 5.7 makes more over 100 more horses that the 100 series

This is not to say I don't like the 100 series...I just like the 200 series Land Cruiser (not LX570) better.

Certainly alot more goes into a buying decision than brakes. But when I saw the 200 on the rack at Christo's I was impressed by the (finally) right sized rotors and calipers. And the front suspension components look much heavier built than my '99.

Nothing hanging down below the frame rails is an improvement.

Bigger powerplant with about the same MPG (both suck ;)) but more power.

I have not driven one much less sat in one...so I'm not judging: Just noticed a couple differences.

The fact the 200 has more in common with the Tundra should make aftermarket goodies come before the 10th year anniversary of its introduction .

On another note: I saw a 4Runner today at a local shop with a long travel IFS set-up...Foxes...etc. 13" of front suspension travel...big for IFS!

Because some of us don't have any reference point then the new 200 series. I love my 200 and would not trade it for another LC.
I have not driven any other model then my 200, so for me it is
perfect.

There are not as many mods for it yet, but that is expected.

Since you seem so "d a m n" negative and angry about the price of the new LC's then why even bother going to the dealership to try one out?

You are just wasting your and the sales persons time.

Maybe with all the anger you have built up, you should seek some therapy.

I'm always negative, makes for better analysis. If you go in with a isn't everything great attitude you don't look as close. I want to drive one to see how if feels. I've owned a 1995 FZJ80, a 1999 LC and 2 2004 LX470's so I should notice differences, other then price. If I really like it and I feel it is over priced as a new model I will wait until the price comes down and pick one up later. I understand that price isn't everything in making a decision, I did buy a new SL550 ( not cheap ) but I like everything about the car so I bought it. I also got right at $20K off list price :). Still to much money but it did ease the pain some.

100 series LX and LC are the same vehicle except the LX has nicer interior and better warranty. Not wanting a Lexus badge on your SUV? What's that about? About the 200 series being far less maintenence, could you expand on that?

A known "expert in this field" recently tested the 200-series both on-road and on-trail and for an extended period of time. I wish I could share his comments, though I swore to not do so.

I can tell you that his preference "overall" was to the 100-series and by a notable margin.

I know this post sounds plain weird. I just can't disclose his opinions.

OK, so Scott Brady tested the 200 (he posted on Expedition Portal that he was doing so). You do not have to sound like James Bond. I would like to know what he did not like on the 200 but I can understand that if the testing was for Toyota that it is difficult for him to release.

. I am also waiting for our client to come back from Alaska and get his long term views on actually using the truck. From the little I had to do with the truck I can not see what the 100 has that the 200 does not. The only issue with the 200 would be the lack of aftermarket support currently available.

Exactly what that says. I do not want a Lexus vehicle. Period. I would rather be seen with Toyota logo on my the front grille than have a Lexus. Most people people have no idea what a Toyota Land Cruiser is and will just think its just another ordinary Toyota and this just fine by me.

No more timing belt change. Transmission I think needs no fluid replacement.

So the 5.7 has a chain. The 2004- 2007 has the 100K transmission interval if you want to go that long :) most on here won't. I'm sure the 2008 has the same interval. Any other savings? I see with the Toyota emblem you are lower profile (Plus the new 200 looks like a large Hilander :) ). I had a buddy that lived in Ft. Lauderdale and drove a Lambo, was murdered. Yellow Lambo and $20K+ gold rolex can get you noticed by the wrong people. Good luck and enjoy your 200

The new Toyota trannies have no fluid change interval. In fact, it's a sealed unit with no dipstick.

Scott did not release a review on his 200-series experience you point out.

I'm sure your Alaska client will have loved his 200-series as I or anybody on this forum would. What a comfy and cushy vehicle for a trip like that! I bet the 200 would get the nod over the 100. Not sure.
I do not see it working for me in the rocks as well as my 100....but I have not tested the 200.

I have an aversion to owning a Lexus as well. Personal preference, so be it. Some people by certain makes just to "impress" the neighbors, etc. That's a really jacked reason to buy a car(or anything else for THAT matter). Let me recant on the Lexus for this point...IF lexus had a product I wanted I would buy it..But not BECAUSE it was a Lexus!

I was really excited about the new 200 and was convinced I was going to get one when they first hit...Until my 1st test drive... I was totally under whelmed on that first drive. I think my expectations were too high in the first place. While it was very nice (should be for $70+K !!) and "smelled great", I left the dealership dumbfounded and quite disappointed. When I got into my 6 yr old 100 I asked myself if the 200 was really worth the asking price (answer was NO!!) ? Especially when I was really not that blown over by the looks (and a few other things as well) of the 200 ! All that being said, since then I have driven a 200 3 more times and an '08 Sequoia as well. All the excitement of the "new" 200 has worn off a bit and I have changed my opinion as well..While I still think it is somewhat overpriced (for a Toyota) I am in all probability going to get an '09 or '10 (diesel perhaps??). While I think it is pricey, you have to compare it to its only 2 competitors in the US, the Range Rover and G-Wagen. Both of those vehicles are actually a little bit more expensive than the 200. Put into that light the 200 doesn't seem SO pricey. You can't compare it to anything made domestic, they just don't stack up or compare, at all. Also, early on I was considering the LX 570...Not any more !! While the interior is quite nice I find the exterior positively repulsive and there doesn't look to be much in the aftermarket for it (like with the LX470) !! You can get a 200 AND a Yaris for what the LX is selling for. What I have noticed, it seems that with every new generation LC they seem to lose some "personality". What they used to have in spades doesn't seem so any more. I guess they are going more mainstream. Even though, they are still fine vehicles !!

x2. This is one of the first things I noticed upon crawling under the thing. On all the previous wagon incarnations, that transmission cross-member sticks out (down) like a sore thumb. On the 200 they finally have it tucked up relatively nice and tight.

This statement from someone that owns a Range Rover???? RR are one of the biggest status symbol on the road and to top it off they are very poor quality vehicles. What are some of you guys smokin. A LC is a LX with less equipment and less warranty do some research before you post.

Toyota/Lexus have been doing this since 2004 with the LC/LX. That is not new!!!

And by new I meant recent generation of transmissions, not the ones this model year. Not saying it's what I'd do, just saying that's what Toyota is claiming. And I don't see many peeps being happy about dropping the tranny to flush fluid.

What we have here is a failure to communicate. I was just looking for pro's/con's 100 versus 200. Like the bigger engine that does not need to have any timing belt service. Anyone know of anything else? or is the 200 so new that we really don't know yet what might be better?
