Just fact finding. Figure that many of you new 200 owners were previous 100 owners and now have insight into these pro's and con's when you compare them. Also anyone that has a 100 and has been doing a lot of research and test driving of the new 200 your thoughts would also be welcomed.
Thanks

pro's and con's when you compare them

Cons:
Less departure angle for the rear.
About a .11 inches less ground clearance.
Power third row rear window is now deleted and fixed.
Fixed rear third rows seats.
More harder plastic on lower door trim

Did a quick search on ebay motors and on IHMUD and it looks like the discount on these gas hogs is about 1%. That is insane. All gas hog SUV's are going into the tank when it comes to holding their value. Who would pay anything close to MSRP???

Agreed...but I think the # of units Toyota brings into the states is probably so low in relative terms they sell through their production quota regardless of fuel prices.

So people are paying a premium for a product that has a feature (gas hog) that is causing other new/used vehicles like it to lose value at a very fast rate. I understand there are people that want to have the newest model but normallly you would think that might last for the first few hundred and then the demand would stop like on other SUV's. Guy at the gym just bought a new Denila listed for $43K and he bought it for $31K. I was expecting that the LC that listed for about $70K would be going for around $53K, which then might make it a little more attractive.

I believe people that buy LC's have bought cheap trucks before and know what they get. I do believe those people probably do haggle more than in the past and the dealers might be a little more eager to make the sale, but you are always going to pay for the quality.

I agree with you on the quality issue, but on price, example I just paid $36K for my 2004 LX470 with 39K miles in perfect condition, it was a Austin Tx. vehicle and never even saw snow. Lets see buy a better looking used LC/LX for 1/2 of what they are asking for a new LC? Both are quality one you are paying a premium for and the other you are getting for a discount.

A known "expert in this field" recently tested the 200-series both on-road and on-trail and for an extended period of time. I wish I could share his comments, though I swore to not do so.

I can tell you that his preference "overall" was to the 100-series and by a notable margin.

I know this post sounds plain weird. I just can't disclose his opinions.

Yes, I know. I almost didn't post. If somebody is truly on the fence about a buying decision, I suppose I could ask my contact about a possible phone call.

Me? I was very impressed with the 200 as everybody well knows. I luv the inside, the powertrain upgrade, and the overall vehicle. What I don't know? Real-world seat time. I guess that is where differences truly come into play between the two.

So bottomline an expert drove both and without considering price would rather have the 100 series versus the 200 series. Now if you add the huge price difference were talkin about the 200's being on sale and losing a ton on resale value in 1-2 years.

Has nothing to do with cost. He evaluates all types of off-road vehicles strickly on overall performance and design.

Got ya, my reference to cost was based on the fact you can steal a used 100 because of the cost of fuel and for some reason Toyota/Lexus is getting top $$ for the new LC's and LX's. So bottomline this expert likes the 100 better then the 200. So why other then having the latest model are people buying the 200 series. I'm going to go drive a new LC at the local dealer tommorrow just to see what they are like.

Because they are new and nicer to the typical new-car US buyer (not us here on MUD). I did hear that cush and comfort for long trips are on the plus side over the 100 (which is to be expected).

So what was the purpose of this top secret testing? Will his opinion be released in some form? How did he happen to have both a 100 and 200 series to test? Color me skeptical.

Because some of us don't have any reference point then the new 200 series. I love my 200 and would not trade it for another LC.
I have not driven any other model then my 200, so for me it is
perfect.

There are not as many mods for it yet, but that is expected.

Since you seem so "d a m n" negative and angry about the price of the new LC's then why even bother going to the dealership to try one out?

You are just wasting your and the sales persons time.

Maybe with all the anger you have built up, you should seek some therapy.
