What are GX470 guys using for bike racks?

I am also looking into the MWE Racks and RakAttach offerings to add some more flexibility to my 1UP

My Rakattach (Medium) should arrive tomorrow. Pictures with 1Up and bikes coming shortly - weather dependent.

Is your 1Up the 1.25" receiver tube? How does that work in a 2" receiver? Or what's going on there?

Does it have stops to keep it from swinging over to the passenger side further than shown, or how does that work? I'm curious if there's room for the rear spare tire on my HDJ81 to swing open enough that you can open the upper and lower tailgates, if it could extend further than shown then I'd be pretty well sold. Yours is the medium, correct? Maybe the large would do the trick?

Thanks for posting up the pics!

The 1Up you see in the picture is in fact the Quik Rack add-on adapter, which comes as a 1.25" with a 2" adapter. This allows me to carry 1 or 2 bikes. I also have the 2" Heavy Duty Quik Rack, which allows me to carry 2, 3 or 4 bikes. The medium worked perfectly for me. The large adds another 4 inches in length. You need to measure 34" from the left side of the receiver, to your right. On the GX, that would push the assembly too close to the right side of the vehicle for my liking. The RakAttach is 16" wide, pushing you bike rack that much further away from the rear door. My GX's barn door opens left to right, so I chose to have the swingout in the same direction. My FJC's door swung right to left and there would be plenty of room to clear the rear mounted spare. The only question I would have pondered, was whether to have Walter (RakAttach) reverse the swingout to the left (available option), or have door and the rack open in opposite directions.

Wait, the rakattach can be configured so it swings open to the left?!? That would solve any and all of my issues! I'm emailing for a quote now!

Some folks were asking for pictures of the setback from the rear door and bumper

Just purchased a RockyMounts BackStage rear hitch mount rack. Swings out past the rear tailgate door. perfectly. Pricey, but met the needs of the silly swing out tailgate door and carries 60lb eBikes no problem. Super solid and no ratting, none. Lifetime warranty.

Not a 470 but here is my 460 with a really great quality bike rack. I like it because it is built really well and I can take it off in under 30 seconds with no tools. QuikrStuff - Proudly made in the USA - https://quikrstuff.com/ It is essentially a better version of the 1up rack in my opinion.
What makes it "better" than a 1UP? How is it priced in comparison? I'm in the market for something and 1UP was one of my short list companies, so any additional info would be great!

There are a couple videos on YouTube that get into detail but from my perspective, how quickly and easily you can attach the first and additional trays. No tools and seconds to attach as opposed to minutes and needing tools. The ratcheting system for the trays and the leaning mechanism lever. The person who invented the 1 up is the person who created this new one but under a different company. I think the cons, it is more expensive and there is a crazy wait time for it.

I welded on a 12 inch long 2" receiver to my oversized spare tire swing arm. Doing this allows me to swing the tire and my 1up rack away in one step. It also leaves my regular hitch clear if I need to tow or use it for a recovery. Added bonus of being much higher for more clearance.

I've got the same thing on mine.🤙

Both look good! I like it.

I need to do this! I’ve got a 1up rack and I’ll soon be adding on a tire carrier and I’ve been thinking about what it’ll look like with the bike rack on.

I’ve just been getting annoyed since I leave it on 100% of the time and if I don’t have a bike on there, I still have to lower the rack a bit to open my door. Not bad I guess since it only takes seconds, but it’s starting to be more of an annoyance than anything.

Time to get a swing out!

Yakima swingout clears my Tundra tailgate, will clear GX door no problem.

Rooftop bike rack is best way to go though. Bikes take way less abuse up there.

A decent bike rack is $500+, lots of cheap asses on these forums that think everything should be free. Gotta pay to play.

Hard to beat a basic Yakima CopperHead on the roof. This one is ~8-9 years old. Only issues are getting snagged on trees/limibs if going into the woods and avoiding drive-thrus. Also it would be difficult to load the bike without rock sliders. I put one foot on the slider, one on the tire. My gravel bike is around 25# loaded.

I too had been waiting to get a bike rack after we got our 470 for about 6 months. I take my bike about 1-2 time a week out and had been carrying it in the back until it was time to get a rack and I researched quite a few swing out options. We carry the dogs in the back often and I wanted full access to the rear cargo area.

I also needed to get a hitch. I ended up going with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, class III, from e-trailer for the hitch. The new 1-Up Equip-D Double with an extra tray and the Rack Attach large swing out to the passenger side. Pricey but I use this at least 2 times a week and will last forever. 1-Up also sell discounted units that were returned or used as demo, the Rack Attach I got was demo.

I've had the fold down Yakima/Thule racks on previous trucks and all the plastic pieces seem break eventually.

It sits further out than I like, but functions perfect, with full operation/access to the rear, while the rack is folded up or with bikes loaded.
