That's because TG figured out that nobody greases them like that anymore. Most folks just pack the birf, and pack alot around the bronze bushing and knuckle bearings. Maybe a light coat on the inside of the ball in case the birf hits it, and call it good.

With good (read Marlin) axle seals, you'd be surprised how well things stay lubed in there when you don't have gear oil mixing to make birf soup.

Plus, IMHO, filling the entire knuckle with grease it a waste of grease, and it makes things very, VERY messy on the trail if you break a birf, etc.

well if you drive as much as I do then having that plug is a wise idea cause some grease gets pushed out around the wipers.

In 20 years I never have filled the entire inside..........I use about 1/2 tube(not including inside the bell of the birf) on re-assembly.Hell I dont even use the fish scale:meh::beer:

Dude, its part time, right? I don't worry to much about the grease in my mini truck birfs (or the 62 I had) because it just sits there most of the time and then spins at relatively low speeds on the trail. In the other hand, the 80 (which is full time and the birfs get a much better work out) is a bit more of a concern when it comes to birf grease levels.

lol... So that means there's somebody else out there doing it and they copied the idea?

Wonder who the udder guy is?:D

there's another down-side to 6-shooters; they're made by trail gear! :flipoff2:

Hahaha, No doubt.

That plug you speak of doesn't grease the birfs, it puts grease between the knuckle ball and knuckle. Just put the rig in 4wd every once in a while when pulling into the driveway it helps move grease around. I do it just about every time I pull into mine (rocks). I have seen some failures with those trail-mart knuckles, mostly on well wheeled rigs though.
