Welding Table

I found these cabinets at the local Habitat ReStore and picked both up for $50. This should help with the storage:

Problem is that the two cabinets are 35" tall and there isn't that much space between the top and bottom rail of the welding table. Time to modify and might as well use 2.5" .25" wall square tube to make the rails so I can build "hitches" that slide in.

Let's build a rack to hold those cabinets, then get them as close to the ground as possible:

The bars above the rack/tray will be removed and cabinets slid in. Casters will be welded to the 3/8" floor plates. Haven't decided on how I'm going to affix the top yet, but I'm thinking a few tack welds for now. Hoping that these casters will be up to the task:

Got to have wheels. In the hangar, all the tables have wheels to move around the planes. So I took
that concept home. It will make your life far more livable.

I was thinking of designing a welding table that could take the small HF welding cart under it. That way you could wheel around the entire table with the cart attached and out of the way or you could pull the cart out separately. Need to get a welder first though I guess.

Bars cut out and first test fit:

Casters on and square, then cabinets installed

Angle iron behind cabinets, tack welded to the frame and to the cabinets themselves

Done!

New work surface height is 45". Not sure if that's too high, time will tell. I bought one of these clutter catchers from SWAGOffroad so that will get put in there somewhere.

This thread will be updated again when I have time to build tool mounts into that 2.5" tube at the top. I'm thinking a few different attachments:
1. vice attachment
2. bench grinder attachment
3. axle hanger attachment
4. portaband table mount
