I don't want to hijack the other thread anymore :)
I picked up Darrin's 97 on Saturday and since then I have replaced the battery with an 80lbs monster. Also have a weird squeeking noise coming from who knows where. The sound reminds me of my squeeking Camburg UCAs on the FJC kinda. The sound is speed dependant as the faster I go the more it squeeks/ squeels. Let off the gas and I can here the sound slow down.

What could it be?

1. Brake pad warning clips? Need to lift and spin wheels to rule it out. The pads where changed about 4K miles ago.

2. U Joints going bad? Need to climb under and turn the drive shaft to see if I can replicate the sound.

3. Pulley? Not sure to figure if it is or not.

Sound has been there each day since Saturday. Except this morning on the way to work (knocking on wood), it was real quiet :) Sometimes it's there as I start to roll off the driveway and sometimes it takes a bit to start up.

It's my DD and when it starts it's rather embarassing :whoops:

Any info would be greatly appreciated by this newb.

Check the belt idler pulley. I changed mine as PM when I changed the belts. I think it was making a noise when I bought my truck.

Use Toyota belts only!

That's what I was thinking too. The 1FZ is very quiet at idle. Not Prius quiet but quiet.

If it was the pully, then wouldn't it make the noise at idle and not from movement?

Not always. I had a bad ac idler pulley that would only make noise under acceleration and dependent on weather conditions. Humid warm days it was fine but cooler dry days woke it up and it would start sqealing.

I would also check to make SURE you have OEM belts and not the cogged belts.

Noise is gone!!! It was a bad ujoint at the rear shaft. I removed the front shaft and locked the center. Repeat step for rear. Messed with the ujoints and.....seriously, thats what I would have done after reading the many posts about strange noises but with zero time available I took it to a shop in Artesia (Kings Auto). They helped me out.

Thats great news Bruno... a lot cheaper than taring into your t/case...
