My FJ40 has a 32/36 weber carb on it and can't seem to get it to idle right. Have tried idle adjustment screw but it only helped a little. Also put bigger primary idle jet in it but that didn't seem to make a difference. Is the 32/36 too small a carb for a 2F engine? Or could it be something else?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated

the carb isn't new probably about 15 years old. It was rebuilt less than 6 months ago. My dad ,who knows a lot more than I do, just can't figure out why it is idling so low

Did the idle problem crop up right after the rebuild?--If so, what was replaced during the rebuild?
Send me your e-mail address via conversations and I'll send you the Weber troubleshooting guide(it's scanned, and too big to put on the forum--pdf format)

It was like it before and after rebuild. My dad thinks it could be that the 32/36 is meant for a 4 cylinder. The carb was on the cruiser when we bought it

The 32/36DGV series is pretty small for a 4.2L engine , correct .
Reasons for not idling -
Clogged idle circuit , either at the jet itself or within the circuit that leads down to the idle mix screw .
Check the top air horn gasket - if backwards some models will block off the idle air bleed .
Vacuum leak - this is the most common and can be traced down with brake cleaner - use sparingly .

I had the 32/36 on my 2f FJ60 for a few years. Used it as a daily as well as trail rig. Never had any issues other than trying to keep 70mph going up a hill, which stock form off the show room floor was unobtainable.

If you know the carb rebuild was done properly look for vac leaks first. I've got a buddy with a 60 and seems he gets a new one every couple months.

Sent you a 2nd scan of the install guidelines--maybe will help--

I've got the 32/36 on my '71 and have not had any issues either. Try to move the idle back to where you had it before you started messing with it and run through the Weber troubleshooting guide. Adjusting the idle should be the last resort to a carb problem.
