there have been "other" brands of rigs on runs before, hasnt there?
I think that the odds are generous that someone who doesnt have a Toyota, or is not a perspective buyer of a Toyota would probably not beocme a member of a Toyota club...
But I have been wrong before...:D

Correct...you just can't become a member....

1) I modified the title to a lighter color and outlined it in black, easy to change back if people don't like it.

2) I increased the font size, made it bold, and left justified it.

3) I'm not going to fool with the content unless Keith flakes out and doesn't deliver. No sense spending time on it if he is doing a complete re-write.

4) Didn't we just go through the whole membership vs Toyota ownership thing? I think it's important that we stress on the web that all brands are welcome to join us. At meetings and on the trail. In the long run it pays off to be hospitable.

Here is the reply I got form Tony Twiddy when I ask the Toyota ownership question. So everybody has to be a member of TLCA, but 30% of our membership can be non-toyota owners.

Being as I was Western rep and helped this club join TLCA, I'll answer...

Yes, all members of your TLCA Chapter club must join TLCA.
So, if folks don't want to join TLCA, they technically cannot join your club.
If you club membership questions that, then perhaps Chapter status is not for your club. I do not mean that in a negative sense, but your members make the choice to belong to TLCA or not. If you feel it impacts your membership, then perhaps it is not a good. Let me repeat, Yes, they must join TLCA.

For clarification, it takes 6 active members to start a chapter, you only need to maintain 4 to maintain your chapter status. Your by laws were reviewed to ensure they were positive towards TLCA, and TLCA membership was a club requirement.

Yes, financials are available by asking Treasurer, TLCA makes those readily available and year end. Yes, TLCA donates to land use but note, TLCA is not a land use organization. In the past, TLCA has went way beyond the normal call of duty to support BRC, and TLCA donates to other smaller groups such as FOTR, Utah Shared Alliance and many others. But as noted, Not a land use organiziation.

TLCA helps protect trails by providing knowledge and best practices type information. Clubs and TLCA Sponsored events provide family oriented activities where folks learn about proper back country and trial ettiquette.
TLCA also sponsors Gregg Mumm, our land use chairman who is involved with BRC and helps spread the information. But TLCA is not a land use association.

Finally, your conclusion is correct. TLCA supports Chapter clubs with events, information and Trails. Chapter support TLCA with continued membership. Its a symbiotic relationship.

Now off the record... TLCA requires membership but we do not bird dog chapters. If someone joins and then fails to join TLCA, that is for your club to determine the level of active participation towards gaining that membership.
I'm not saying we condone that, but I am saying no one birds dogs your club.
TLCA wants clubs to have autonomy and freedom, and yet feel involved in a larger effort. We do not dictate to clubs about their requirements other than: positive towards TLCA, and requiring TLCA membership, in a TLCA Chapter club.

Hope that helps... Feel free to ask more.

Tony Twiddy
past Western Rep, past President
TLCA Member of the Year 06

We'll lets chat about the 30% scenario because there is always confusion around this topic.

First off, all Toyota owning members must join TLCA.
After that, 30% of your Toyota membership can be non Toyota, ie, Jeeps, Broncos, cornbinders, Fords and Chevys.

So if you have 15 Toyota members, all must join TLCA, and 30% of that number, or 4, can be non Toyota members.

The 30% is no way intended for Toyota owners to avoid joining TLCA.

This is all confirmed yearly when you submit your club Roster to TLCA to confirm you have at least the minimum 4 to maintain Chapter status.

You're doing a great job! and getting clarification by asking Qs is always good.

Tony

Juggling a lot of things at the office this week, but working that intro content over is a priority for a personal deadline of Friday.

I appreciate everyone contributing to the discussion about how we represent ourselves to the rest of the world. We get a better understanding what this club means us personally as well.

The healthy discussion here helps me organize content, determine how much time to spend on the important stuff, as well as tell folks how and where to get more information mentioned on the intro page.

Please keep the suggestions rolling in. I'll get my first draft to Rusty TLC Dan by Friday. Hopefully we'll (I mean everyone) have the weekend to read it, critique it, edit, and with enough luck and time rewrite in time for the Tuesday meeting — where we can do it all over again. But with pizza and beer.

Keith

P.S. I don't flake, I bail. Totally different, — as the Tahoe dating scene has taught me.

The differentiating factor between the two is the person who bails, calls right before your night's engagement to let you know you aren't interesting enough to spend dinner and a movie with.

The flakes just never show.

Term that bridges the gap between the two: Undependable.

Some people use the phrase "spaced it," as in "Sorry bro, I totally spaced it."
This is most frequently used by employees who flake on deadlines.
It is more than appropriate for managers/supervisors to use the same phrase when flaky employees inquire why their paycheck never arrived.

Two things, I like the 1) and 2) changes but make the black outline in the title a little bolder.

And #2 what is this in a white font that you can hardly see in your sig.

I know that Dan J did not mean >flake< in a negative way.He probably couldn't find his favourite button. But I have to say I like your response. Too funny.
Mike

I knew Dan wasn't being negative. He's a man of action. He doesn't mince words. He gets things done.

I've had enough drama to deal with this week that I now feel qualified to judge the Oscars. This is the place where we go to get away from work drama. I hope, please say yes.

I was trying to be funny with a hint (OK, a heaping) of sarcasm, and maybe share a little peek into the Tahoe mindset.

Apparently, bailing on someone is somehow more responsible than flaking. Go figure.

Besides, I wouldn't flake on you guys.

I'd totally bail.

A Toyota-oriented 4X4 club, Battle Born Cruisers members dedicate themselves to their collective love of off-roading the majestic landscapes Northern Nevada offers. We are explorers at heart. We believe in promoting proper off-roading techniques, keeping trails better than we found them, participating in trail cleanups whenever possible, as well as sharing our respect for the outdoors with others.

Based in the Reno/Sparks region, Battle Born Cruisers is sanctioned by the Toyota Land Cruiser Association (TLCA). Our members come from Nevada's high country as well its lowlands. We welcome off-road enthusiasts of all skill levels so our novice members may learn from the more experienced.

We come from different walks of life, but the common thread we share is our love of Toyota 4WD vehicles. Our rigs vary from the highly modified FJ40's to the new, fully stock FJ Cruisers, and just about every Toyota 4WD in between.
Our monthly club trail runs include all types of terrain — rocks, snow, mud (if any can be found) and the endless miles of backcountry dirt roads that need exploring. We hold monthly meetings open to anyone interested in four-wheeling any make of vehicle.

We have an online forum hosted by TLCA at the link below. That's where you go if you want to know about trail runs we have in the works, our meeting times and locations, have questions about your Toyota rig, or just want to chat with our members.

Looks pretty spiffy to me, I'm sure there will be some tweaking to be done.

I probably should have picked my words a little more carefully, I didn't intend to offend. What I intended was to let people know that I wasn't going to spend a lot of time fussing with the spelling and grammer in the first pass text as long as we had your version on the way. If you had been hit by a bus or something then we would have needed to work on it.

This is yet another example of why I am a poor choice to write anything for public consumption. :grinpimp:

I love the flake bail comparsion.

The colors on this forum are different than the main mud forum so it doesn't show up very well
It's kind of a statement on the guys who list evey mod on their rig down to the type of air cleaner they use.

BTW I really want a hula girl on the dash, but Joanne is against the idea. I may have to go with this instead.

No offense taken whatsoever. Saw the word "flakes" and took the opportunity to expound, or B.S. away a few minutes at work. You did the right thing by hatching a Plan B, in case I flaked, bailed, spaced it, or got hit by a bus. I have been hit by a Range Rover, so you never know.

(Be careful about having those Plan Bs in place. You might find yourself in an editor position. You don't want that.)

Besides, you'll have to work a lot harder than that to offend me.

Nice work on the text. I think its a bit long but does give a good feel of what we strive to be.

Doesn't surprise me. I get a bit wordy. If you spot any redundancies, or find irrelevant sentences, just point them out. A little fat trimming never hurt anyone.

Sounds like I can start thinking about other pages. When the look is finialized I'll make it a template and use it for everything else we add to the site.

Now what other pages do we want?

Maybe our by-laws and a list of club officers?

Here I am at work again, and this project is just waaaaaayy more fun.

I know I'd appreciate a list of club members as well as officers, with some contact information. This might already be somewhere, but it would be good to have on hand IMO. We can decide how much contact info we want to post, say if it's just e-mail vs. phone numbers …

Also, I think a lot of the content that's on the original site was very helpful to me, such as equipment requirements. Actually, much of that stuff in the left side rail was very helpful to me when I started looking for this club.

We could direct most of the contact through the Webmaster contact email. That would keep everybody from having to deal with the web crawler spamers. (Search engines that look for e-mail addresses on web sites and spam them.)

Which pages did you fine most helpfull?
