Getting things ready to mount water pump back to the block and trying to sort out the bolt order. I believe I have the bolts in the same holes they originally came out of but can't find a clear picture from my disassembly documentation. Anyone know what the long double-sided stud is for in the bottom left of the pump here? I can't recall anything being mounted to it and can't find any reference to it on the web.

Could you identify the specifics of your truck?

For a 1973 F engine, I'd vote for the bar that the air pump tensioning arm mounts to.
It's a 1969 truck with original alternator attached to a 1974 F155 with double-pulley harmonic balancer and water pump. I thought air pump as well but couldn't find any pictures of that particular stud. Not a big deal, just my curiosity wanting to know what everything on the truck is for as I put it back together.

Maybe your anchor for the alternator bracket. Also, you have bolts that thread into the water jacket that will leak if the threads aren’t sealed.
I thought that but then found a good picture of my disassembly showing the long M8 bolt with the sleeve being the mount for the alternator bracket.

Thanks for the tip on the mounting bolt threads. Anything special here? Should be good with an application of FIPG on the threads before torquing, yeah? I ran a tap through the block threads and a die over the mounting bolts to clean them up before zinc plating so I think I'm set there.

*EDIT- Looking at the mounting holes for the water pump on the block, they are sealed from the water jacket with a dome on the backside of the threads. I should be safe to skip the thread sealer.

I think this is a winner. I can't imagine what the use would have been. Maybe just what the PO had lying around when he lost a bolt replacing the pump. Thanks!
Actually, post #2 was the winner.

Here is the parts fiche illustrating part #17317:

Air pump bolt, factory. If anyone needs one, I obviously have a few.
