I'm in the process of "refreshing" my M12k Warn winch. I thought it might be of interest to document it.

First off: the motor. It was making lots of noise. Sounded like gravel and ball bearings in a steel blender on slow speed... and it seemed to heat up significantly even when just spooling in the cable under no load.

Took it apart and this is what I found:

Oh... by the way, can you tell my wife is out of town?

Rebuilding the winch on the kitchen table:

Then I pulled the motor itself apart. Seized bearing, broken brush, LOTS of dirt/sand/crap...

IPOR to the rescue!

So it has been determined that the best (most economical - time vs money) plan is to replace the motor. (The brush assembly is available from Warn for $80 + shipping. The toasted bearing is not available from Warn - I would have to try to source a replacement elsewhere.

So... I contacted Lance and Terry at IPOR and they are getting me a motor! It'll be at their shop tomorrow and he is bringing it up to CMCC on Wednesday. Look for me on Wednesday night mounting a winch motor at Echo Valley!

Faster than anything service and delivery to CMCC to boot... SUPPORT THIS VENDOR!!! - they WILL do you right (and more) for all things Toyota!

Thanks Lance and Terry at IPOR!

Received motor from Lance at CMCC... mounted up with just a little head scratching. Thanks again to Lance and the folks at IPOR.
