Hey guys,
I haven't been to any meetings or shown my face much at all, but I had a 62 that I sold this past summer. Well, as I'm sure most could have predicted I'm on the hunt for another LC! I want an 80. I'm still in grad school so don't have much moola. I've found one just down the road in Long Beach.

I made a post in the general 80 forum:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/441687-lc-again-not.html

Here's the basics
'92 229k miles $1200 (said he wasn't going to take less)
Bad:
dents all around
smashed tail lights
front bumper smashed in
seats gone
water slosh in ds door
just plain worn out interior
missing jump seats
mismatched tires
front axle needs to be rebuilt, with possible new birfs, bad clatter when turning

Good:
Cheap-ish way back into a LC!!
slowly throw money at it as I get it
engine/trans seem good

I think with the price of new 'yota birfs I'm going to offer the guy $800 cash and see what happens

What do y'all think?

I'd really like a 93 FZJ locked for around $3k or less. Any around??

I've got a 60. $1500. Come get it.

Sounds like a deal to me!

I can sense a little sarcasm, but I'm not so sure! No AC in the South would amazingly suck, although I didn't use it much on the 62.
Did some reading on overheating and the AC on the 80s and it seems like they have a switch to kill the AC when it gets hot. I'd imagine that's what's going on and probably needs some fans replaced?

wngrog, thanks I'll do that!

If your expectations are to find a locked 93 for $3K or less, you better not even call the owner of the truck you described back! Be patient. A much better deal will show up...........

Awesome! I haven't been looking really at all and just kind of guessed at a price. So $3k or less for a locked 93 is possible?

Found a 95 with 215k non locker near for $3750

Thanks!

Hey sk8, if you pass on that beauty of a truck... post pics er sumptin of it... All that you listed seems to be fixable in mere weeks and could a solid truck in the right hands.... i have gray rear seats, both back rows...

That sloshing in the door is common. The seal up on the windows needs replacing.... or the plugs in the bottom need removing to allow for water to drain through the door and rocker...

Remember.... 80's look still kinda new... but the newest one is now 15 years old...

Thanks! I will post up the details, I'm going to offer him $800 cash today and see what happens. I was also going to check out that one in Mobile! From the pics it looks like it's not locked though.

Some say ARBs are better sometimes. The 62 had an Aussie in the rear, it was ok.

I'm not even SURE I'll need lockers, but I know it's always nice to have. And with an 80 I'm planning on getting together on the group trips more often.

No, it does not have lockers. i desire non-locked 80's though.
Aussie is the strongest locker you can get for an 80.... e-lockers are the weakest, ARB's behind them... With 85W-140 gear oil in the dif, you'll only notice the Aussie locker on long swooping turns and it clicks... I've run them for over 5 years in 80's.... never have i ever had 5 seconds worth of trouble out of them.... I've broken axle shafts before the locker... actually, never have seen and Aussie break.
Don't worry with the front being locked... once you lock the front you need birfs...

once you lock the front you need birfs...

Bet that.

I ran a rear Aussie in my last 80 only. No front locker and 35's. I took it all over Moab and Tellico and it worked great.

These 80's do great with just a rear locker.

Oh yeah... no doubt.
i ran for years doing very hard stuff without a front locker.... never once broke a birf... once i got locked up front... pop pop pop

POP!

Buy Timmie's buggy.

Pop goes the weasel cause the weasel goes pop!

Checked it out this afternoon. Looks good. Its got a helluva valve cover gasket leak. Quart+ a month. Other than that it's been well kept. With y'alls locker talk maybe I should go for it? Would $3k be a decent deal?

yeah, decent deal... it looks ragged in the 4 pics... got more?
I wouldn't mind buying ragged... but know it will take a LOT of work.

It was actually ok. The driver seat was pretty bad and the hood and front of the roof's clear was pretty bad. Much better condition than the $1200 here in Long Beach. I don't mind raggd either. It won't be a daily just for fun and hopefully some expo type rides
