33x10.5R17 D Load Range Goodyear MTRs on oem steel wheels. Pushed back liners, no rub because factory offset and narrow tire. It's phenomenal aired down. Eventually going 1.75"/1.5" with 5100s.

This is my only rig and I put a good many miles on it. The smaller size would fit In the spare location, the smaller tires would be better for 99% of my driving. Potentially better ride, mpg, cheaper, easier to find an in stock replacement? Also a smaller diameter will keep the truck in a better power band with the gearing (it’s not awful but it’s not perfect).

I’m definitely gonna wear these out and decide at the end but this situation of having a Non diameter matched spare was more stressful to my mind than I would have liked and I’m not getting any type of spare carrier or bumpers at this point. So it just seems more practical. Luckily? tires are consumables and I will get the chance to try whatever my heart desires in another year or so when these wear down. I wish there was more load rated C rubber out there. I’d love to have a slightly smaller diameter 17” rim tire that wasn’t passenger or E rated but somewhere in between.

After a quick glance at the tire size chart, comparison, and brand availability I’d probably go 265/70r17 next go around with a less aggressive tread pattern. Keep the same spare I have which is 265/65r18.

Matched spare on stock rim, better mpg and gearing, more tire availability if you get a flat out of town. Still get you up to the ski cabin no problem.

So, ended up with 265/65/18's Pirelli Scorpion plus tires 31.5 inches, and the 2.5 Dobinson lift. THanks for the replies. Truck rides great, had it aligned this AM. I like the factory look with a little lift. I feel like this truck deserves so much more than a grandmother, grandkid hauler. Even though thats what it will mainly be. LOL
Took me about 5 hrs to install the lift. I should have done a youtube vid because I didn't find a ton of good info on lifting it. Best vid that I found was by yodamafia but they didn't get into the back coils and shocks much. That turned out to B easy peazy.

Yup, it looks great!
I think you’ll be happy. Especially if it’s mainly a kid hauler. I was off roading a good bit when I first got the GX but the reality for me and reason I would want the modest tire size is that I’m 99+% driving on the road. And you’ll fit a full size spare with that size in the spot provided.

Thanks, I will use it at the beach from time to time. The outer banks in NC. But mainly a grocery hauler. I'm really happy with the outcome. I bought a spare tire in the same size but haven't tried it yet. I have the large class 3 hitch so I figured even if I have to deflate a little it should fit.

285/70r17 1.9” front lift 2” rear Dobinsons. No BMC here never rubbed. Lots of fender chopping up front. Recently had a flat and used my 265/75r18 which was the biggest tire I could get in stock location. I’d get smaller tires if I had to do it over again. But they do look good and perform great off road.

Why would you get smaller? Also, is that a typo...because it sounds like you're running 32.7" tires with a 33.6" spare?

Are you really running 33's with no lift? What are the specs on the wheels needed to do that....offset. Also, what kind of on road performance/mpg hit did you have?
Yes. Stick with factory offset. I used steel takeoffs from a 4runner. I dropped about 10-15% on fuel economy but its super hooked up on anything from gravel to dirt.

I did a lot of research over 9 months, mainly on the 4runner forums as not many folks have gone the tall skinny route on a GX

You will have to stick with a 33 x 10 or 255/80 R17 and push your front and read liners of the front wheels as far back as you can. Thats all well documented.

Looks good! Hope the cat is okay ;P

Wow that looks really good. Do you think running the factory spare would ruin your diffs?
It could cause premature wear to the torsen center diff, but if it was for a very short drive it would probably be insignificant.

Torsens use gears and not clutch packs, like some symmetrical AWD vehicles in which case this would almost certainly fry the center diff.

Wow- that's amazing. What're you doing about a spare tire though? Mine has the 18" sport wheels, and I'm interested in slightly smaller Dura Tracs, so the 255/70R18 Dura Tracs might be an option. They're 32.1" x 10.2". Think they're rub? Probably won't fit the spare location either, eh?

I have 255/70R18. Only rubs at full lock on a bump; no issues otherwise and been running them for 7 months now. Spare doesn't fit, I carry it inside the cab strapped to the side otherwise you get tpms faults. Great size for on road/off road in my opinion; at least a good in between size before going to 35+. Not a huge difference in 33 vs 32 offroad as it only nets 0.5"; you're better off getting a lift for more clearance & sliders/skids or just skids/sliders for protection.

The 255/70R18 is an inch shorter than my tires. They should be fine, and will probably fit underneath. My spare lives in the back until I can get a solution to hang it off the back.
