So all you electronic guru's out there.... here is my crazy thought.

I have been using dewalt systems for years. 18v. I have maybe 10 batteries now in different states of happiness.

I also go camping with my son on his boy scout outings as well as camp with our local TAC chapter.

I HATE camping when it is hot. Can't sleep at all when it is 90 degrees and I am covered in sweat.

So, been using fans that run on 4 D cells and that works fine, but then I saw that Ryobi has a fan that is 18V and works with their batteries.

I have no reason to switch to Ryobi, but wondering if I can convert and use Dewalt batteries.

I have an old drill that broke, so I have a mounting part with leads to take power from.

Or I can pick up another fan that works on 18V and convert.

Any thoughts or any other crazy folks out there that have done this?

found this gem...

18V is 18V, Ryobi or Dewalt. Just the wiring is (likely) different.
You can get the Ryobi fan and use your batteries with a small amount of rewiring using your old drill leads and battery mounts or just a minor bit of soldering and/or clips. Should be trivial if you're not worried about cosmetics.
Or try and see if you can get a bad Ryobi battery off Craigslist, open it up and connect your battery to the leads inside.

just mount a $5 dash fan blade on a hole saw arbor- any brand of tool will do...

Great advice, here's what I came up with

looks very cool, for me I installed an inverter and dc plugs, I have an electrical dc blanket for winter months and a dc fan for summer months, have an extension to run either up to the roof top tent. Keeps me cool in the summer and the girls warm in the winter. I seem to never get cold.
