Few things still need my attention ..

Manage to identify the light ( cluster ) charge light in the harness .. ( plug ) but there is an interesting thing .. I can make it light on if I provide body ground .. but it does not light up with the L port coming from the alternator .. despite I test it ( test lamp ) and it have ground indeed when the alt it's not running ( as it should be ).

Not big deal .. just wonder why .. it seems like L wire from Alt while not running just past the V and not ground it ..

Well test it with all my light and winch .. and need to buy a smaller belt to tight that bitch much more ..

almost forgot ..

opinions about the best way to mount that resistor .. ? or maybe those frame mounted resistors like this one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-WATT-500...aultDomain_0&hash=item5639ed4d0d#ht_861wt_956

but then what I can expect from the watt increment ? coz that one I test was 5W and usually those frame mounted are 25W ..

500 ohm resistor even with 14V across the resistor would be:

P = V x V / R = 14 x 14 / 500 = 0.4W so very little heat to dissipate. Mount it how you want, remember you are in a HOT engine bay.

The alternator (you have googled the alternator info, yes????) only draws current through the L port while getting excited, after that it draws VERY LITTLE. So, the bulb would only light initially. Also, you need a low power bulb with the correct resistance range, again google for various schematics and hookup info.

Since you've NEVER provided the exact part number of the alternator you have, it's hard to know exactly what will/won't work - again, google and you'll find a variety of recommended resistors/bulb configurations.

At least you have something working now.

cheers,
george.

I don't have that much info about the alt .

I contact DC Power Engineering and they made this one for me .. they said it's a 180 amp atl .. and they just provide info that I post before ..

Works like GM alternator .. 2 wire, one for sensing and other one for Light / Activation .. as they do not know about my HJ60 wiring they just said it should be hooked to my factory charge light circuit .. and it should not see more than 11V on the L port .. ( between 1.5 and 11 V ) but they never work with external regulated diesel cruisers before ..

So I got it and walk this way with your help guys ..

it should be like this one ..

How about contacting them and asking if they support a charge light and what type of bulb they recommend. Seems like they should provide you all the info you need, including the correct resistor value etc...

They shouldn't need to know anything about your vehicle since it's irrelevant to the alternator given the regulator etc is inside the alternator. Ask them what resistor/bulb will work on the exciter input of THEIR alternator.

george.

Didn't have that much help diet time I contact 'Em but will do again maybe now with more educated questions...

What about insulation recommendations for that resistor ( if are necessary)?

Sent from my big phone using IH8MUD

Use some large diameter heatshrink and cover all your handiwork or wrap in silicone tape if you have some handy. Of course if you get a bulb into the circuit you'll need to find a different resistor value ->

Yeah, call them back and ask them some real questions now that you have a pretty good idea of the specific info you need to complete the install.

cheers,
george.
