Hi, going to be visiting Rob Millson on the island and we're looking at doing a camping trip somewhere, 2-3 days or several short trips with some nice camp spots. My truck is open on 33s and no rock sliders so nothing too harsh (not sure what Rob is going to be driving.
I'm coming over on Saturday and we'll see when I'm heading back, kind of open on the return date. If anyone else is interested in joining let me know. Either here or call/text.

I like the Nitnat River and Lake area, but it can be busy (pretty much everything in the south island is busy). You can visit Carmanah and Walbran back in that area. I hear Kennedy lake out by Tofino is nice too, and it's on my list but I have not been there. Seeing the beaches out by Tofino is a treat if you've never been though. Around Port Renfrew is Fairy lake which is nice. In the central island there is lots to see around Strathcona Park. A remote but very nice/quiet/big lake there is Donner Lake; it's a fun drive. There is lots to see at the north island too. So much to see...so little time.
 
Leaving Saturday morning, catching the 2nd ferry because I want to have more than just a 2 hour nap tonight. Rob and I will be checking out a couple places (not sure of the order yet) and he is aiming to be back on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Is anyone else up for a trip anywhere else on the island? I'll already be here and wouldn't mind doing some more exploring and don't have to be back for a bit. If anyone is interested shoot me a text or call me at 604.803.3506.

And in case you're wondering what I'm driving before committing to anything....
It is IFS, on 33s, LSD front/rear, pretty much an oversized ATV ...and diesel

Truck looks great! I'd followed part of your build and was impressed with your workmanship. Hope you have a great trip on the Island. Wish I could join you, but won't happen this time.
 
Back in '08 we did the 1st VI Cruisers Island Back roads tour. Jeremy Linn, Ken Robinson and the Stumps started the 8 day journey from Shawnigan to skutz falls, through lake Cowichan up Mt. Bolduc then over to Tofino then back to the cross island logging road up to the western side of Comox Lake. We had people meet us a various points to wheel for a day or two. We spent the final night at Cris Hancock's farm. It was a very cool adventure with the trip to and from Tofino being the only asphalt miles.
 
Sorry to have missed you. I was home for 6 weeks, and just last week I'm back at work in Texas. Hard to throw out short jaunts.
Break out the Vancouver Island backroads mapbook, that's the best idea book.

Hey Mat,
If you see a blue 42 tomorrow or the next day...M and I are heading up to Tofino tomorrow, where we'll stay for a week with friends. I don't know how much 'offroad exploration' we'll do in the truck...however. For the most part, we'll be hiking around and surfing. But I do recall exploring endless logging roads around Uclulet in the mid 90's.
