My wife said it took her 3 times to start our 2004 LX470 yesterday. She said the VGRS light came on on her way home and then it went off. I suspected maybe it was due to the heat or a bad battery. Today I had a friend check the battery and it was "weak" so I replaced it.

After the battery replacement the VGRS light came on. Only that light and not the VSC or any other lights are on. On these forums I see this could be a $3k repair. Am I in deep trouble?

Is the VGRS working? It may just need to be calibrated / initialized. Best thing tondo is connect to a scan tool and see what code or status the system is in. If you don't have the techstream, I'd recommend taking it to the dealer to have it checked.

I only know that VGRS is related to steering so I don't know if it's working or not. However, I just took it on another drive and once I got up to highway speeds the light went off. If it comes back, I'll come back for more advice...

It seems to do that everytime the battery is disconnected for a bit. After a few minutes of driving it seems to get "recalibrated" in some way and then the light goes off. I've never seen it come back on after that....

There's a fsm procedure to reinitialize vgrs and iirc it's basically straight line driving above 5mph or so, so I'd say you've rectified the system by default. I'm pretty sure I've posted the procedure in pdf previously or I'll hunt it down for you if your interested.

Yah I'm having this issue. I had to disconnect the battery for a while to replace the alternator. . When everything was installed back. I noticed the vgrs light stayed on solid as well as vsc Trac and vsc off light . I dont remember if the vsc lights were on or not before the alternator replacement .

It will turn off itself once you drive the car. VGRS light comes on by default once you disconnect the battery.

What about the "vsc trac" and "vsc off" light ? I don't remember if these were on or off before the battery disconnected . Thank you

Check if you have accidentally turned on the diff lock button. With the diff lock engaged VSc and trac light turns on. Put your car in neutral and play with the diff lock button. When the battery disconnects and reconnect VGRS will constantly blink. Is yours VGRS solid on?

It is an aftermarket alternator but the output/amperage is the same as oem according to the product description . I also replaced the battery . I havent toggled with the diff. Lock unlock button yet. To be honest this is my first 4wd vehicle let alone being a Lexus. So everything is super new to me . .I should add, during test driving after battery install, the steering is normal, vehicle drives straight, steering wheel stays straight.

The battery in my truck died. I jumped it successfully and was able to get to the auto store to get a new battery installed.

Once the new battery was in I noticed the VGRS light was on (as well as VSC and VSC off) and the steering wheel was off center - like the car was badly in need of an alignment - but the car drove straight as an arrow. There was no issue with these lights prior to the new battery. The pic of the wheel is the angle as the car was driving straight.

Anyone know what is going on? I assume the new battery freaked the car out somehow? Fix?

Search for "VGRS reset" or "zero point calibration" in the 100 section. You need Techstream to do it.
What is the best option if I don't have Techstream? I have an OBD scanner but not Techstream specifically. If I go to a Lexus shop I assume there will have this but likely charge me a lot to fix it?

Maybe find someone on the forum near you that can just do it quick for 6 pack of good beer?

One thing to note - I ran the scanner and it showed no codes triggered. But the VCS lights were still on - are they somehow related to the VGRS?

Can you post this? I am having an awful time with VGRS after battery change and the dealer was useless

Dealer was a bust. The tech seemed to have never heard of VGRS and often got the letters mixed up. He was unable to recalibrate because he said the software kept spitting back codes related to the ECU. Maybe the ECU is bad? But I still don't have any idea how changing the battery would have this kind of result?
