i have been looking for some time for info on this A440F adapter that i have. its made by northwest offroad but there is no info on it on there site. does any one know any thing about it and what its worth. i have pics but can't post so any help would be nice.
it looks like it bolts to the tranny and it uses the stock tork converter so its smaller then a Mark's kit.

to post pics that are on your computer.

make sure your pictures are re-sized so that they are under 80 kb in size.

clicked advanced post.

go down the page and find the manage attachments, go in there and browse your computer for these pics. Upload em and close the window.

alternately have a flicker or photobucket account and put the photo's in there. No size limit when linked to mud so this option may be better.

go advanced for posting. and click on the mountain icon at the top of the tool bar, insert the link that photobucket or others provide..... voila pictures posted on mud.

having issues re-sizing photo's? see the help section here on mud. Lots of questions on it already.

The A440F with a v8 in front of it is a BAD idea, although a very stout tranny with the 3FE, it plain does not work well with a v8. Search the 80 forums, there a re a lot of guys that tried it, eventually they all went to a 700r4/4L60E. Good luck

It can work and work very well if you use the right A440F, like Rodney's Extreme, and, more importantly, the right torque converter built to handle the extra torque and horsepower of a V8 unless that V8 has more than 600hp. It just hasn't been done that often in the US so you don't hear much about it. With a stock A440F with 200,000 miles on it and torque converter, yes, it is a bad idea.

In addition what you typically hear for V8s swaps is problems with the shift points, not with the durability of the transmission itself. It is designed to shift at a lower rpm than what is ideal for an LT1/LS1. Can't argue with that. You might talk to Rodney about a custom modified valvebody with higher shift points(no idea if he might be interested in doing this but it can't hurt to ask). However if the A440 is in good shape to start with, properly cooled and ideally has a valvebody upgrade I wouldn't think that durability would be an issue. The shop foreman at my tranny builder described it as a "bulldog".

You also might consider something that is more of a truck engine to start with - Gen III/IV Vortec 4.8/5.3/6.0/6.2 or TBI 350. The shift points will be closer than a car V8 like the LT1/LS1...

I wonder how one would do behind a 4BT. I've been throwing around that idea in my head, though I suspect I'd have to have an adapter custom made if I were to even try it...

can not resize the pics and don't have any pic page to add them to so if some one wants to look at the adapter give me your mail and i will send them to you. or if some one want to buy this adapter its for sale now. not sure of it worth but am open to offers. just pm me.

Rodney has a lower stall torque converter. That converter was designed for diesel engine swaps. You'd want that and his extreme valvebody.

Q&A from Rodney (http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/orto.asp)

I own a 1992 Landcruiser with an 4speed auto (not electronic overdrive).I am going to fit a 6.5 litre turbo diesel. Do you do an extreme gearbox for this model and how much? Thanks.....Kim.

Yes we do have an Extreme transmission for the 1992 Landcruiser. The cost of the A440 4 speed transmission with Deisel Govener Unit, Super Low Stall Extreme Kilm Bronzed Convertor and Stage II Recalibrated Extreme Valve Body is $4460.00 inc gst to build your unit + Freight if required. The Valve Body, Low Stall Convertor and Diesel Govener Unit is an Absulut Must when fitting the 6.5 Litre Diesel "

I think once I'm ready to have the diesel job done I'll just order the whole transmission from Rodney along with the TC and the VB. I figure for the money I'll have to spend, I may as well go whole hog :D

so now we have all that out of the way. could someone answer my question. has any one ever seen or used a adapter from NWOR that lets you bolt the A440F to the chevy motor? if so what all does it have in the kit or how does it bolt up to make it work.

I'm interested to know what you ended up doing. My main reason is that I'm contemplating selling my FJ62 for lack of funds and time to work on her. If you mate the vortec/LS directly to the A440F, what additional parts are needed besides the wiring harness for the new engine, the engine mounts and an adapter to connect it to the transmission? Do you know? If it's just the 3, I could easily fix the old gal for under $4000.
