Chassis and engine bay got a makeover. I used steel-it…love that stuff as undercoat!

I did about 3/4 of the chassis…doing the rest of it once I get the LRA tank installed and torque tube moved back

Here are some progress pics…amazing stuff I think compared to what I started with

I know people are gna say why not do a frame off…well I had no rust issues one, two I was hoping not to do a full restoration on this thing and find more “might as well do it” things hahahap

Hello,

Keep up the good work.

Juan

Found this information online…only the 2UZ 100 series had a UZ manual option so if you are doing a manual swap with those OEM 100 series manual transmission flywheel bolts…this info will help. Also, I found it online by searching in google so I do not own these images!

Part numbers:

Flywheel bolts
PN: 90910-02127 (I got mine from CruiserParts.net)

clutch cover bolts (I am using an R series to UZ conversion flywheel with 1KZ/KD clutch set)
PN: 90119-08079 (purchased mine from LCEPerformance)…this seems to be pretty common clutch cover bolts for 5VZ, 3VZ, 22R, etc

Had to have my friend machine out the flywheel by .0014…not a big deal…everything else otherwise went together smooth.

Good to note that since the input shaft has a pilot bearing adapter, stock R150F V6 Dorman alignment tool will work in terms of spline but will be loose in terms of the bearing…also not a big deal but worth noting

Nice to see the powertrain coming together…shout out to my friend for letting me use his facilities!

This is going to be Super Sweet.
I know the Diesels are very popular in 70 series but IMO this will be way nicer !!
Thank you for documenting the swap😎

Thank you! Its definitely not everyones cup of tea as diesel LC are the reigning wanted vehicle for the last however long they been able to bring them in!

However I did what I thought was a good idea!

Getting stuck behind a diesel on the trail is the worst, and I'm a big fan of smooth quiet power.

Thank you to @joekatana for helping me source this KZJ7x axle with oem disc brakes. It will be with me after Rubithon!

Glad he had this and brought up the possibility of doing this because it will eliminate a lot of custom fab work on my end. Should bolt right up. My oem rear axle had no disc brakes.

I am now looking for 2 oem elocker units from a 96-02 Toyota 4runner V6 3rd gen to retrofit into my front RJ77 and rear KZJ7X 8” oem axles

You must wheel with the stop and go people , you need to pick a group that doesn't need spotters and is constantly on the move . The only time I heard people complain about diesel fumes on the trails is when there was more time spent stacking rocks then actual driving .

No it's at SAS, there basically fire roads ( no rock stacking required ) and were on the move. And I have never complained I just don't like the diesel smell. I do have to listen to my wife complain about it 😆
I have owned & like diesels, and my dad had a grading/ excavating company so I grew up around diesel big rigs and tractors, IMO diesels are just plain stinky. not a issue if your the driver !

I do like hardcore rock crawling but the group I wheel with we frown on rock stacking ! and I rarely need a spotter even on 8 & 9 trails at Sand Hollow or running trails like Fordyce. You would have a hard time finding a better more experienced group of guys then the group I wheel with.

I see that your registered for SAS and I look forward to meeting you !! it will be my 5th year attending.

At SAS the altitude probably amplifies the diesel smell especially for the ones running a NA diesel without hac 🤣

Looking forward to it , first time making it to SAS

Just updating this list because I think it was kinda messy when I posted little snippets of the UZ to R series powertrain assembly parts. This is for the short input shaft version R series from a 3.0 89-95 V6 4runner. People have mentioned using an R series from a landcruiser with split case…I don’t know if swapping the input shaft would work to make it work with the same adapter I’m using or if its needed at all…hoping someone tries it out one day. People have swapped R series input shafts into its other version the AX15 so I have a good feeling R to R series is possible. I did get a full $1200 Ls430 (crashed one) to snag the 4.3 motor out of…I parted out that car and paid for most of the parts I needed to buy with the money from the part out.

Also would like to thank @TachedOutOffRoad for posting his build, I mirrored some of the major things in his drivetrain for his 55-80-100 combo build!

-3UZ 2006 variant from an Ls430
-Custom rear sump oil pan (this has a non o-ring dipstick that was flexible and steel braided line so that worked out as I needed to relocate the original dipstick line anyways (Clarks Metal Works)
-R series to UZ bellhousing from KS Racing (ebay)
-LS430 bellhousing to block bolts (2003-2006)
-3VZ (89-94) 4runner bellhousing to transmission bolts
-3VZ (89-94) clutch cover bolts
-1KD hilux clutch and clutch cover (3VZ looks identical though I haven’t tried it)…I’m ordering another 1KD clutch so will compare to a 3VZ)
-UZ to K or V series flywheel (KS Racing)
-3VZ clutch slave (89-94)
-100 series landcruiser manual 2uz flywheel bolts (98-05)
-3VZfe version R150f 5 speed short input shaft manual transmission (89-94) with passenger side drop (detach original chain driven transfercase)
-Advanced adapters R150f V6 23 spline to 21 spline gear driven RF1A transfercase adapter
-RF1A gear driven 21 spline transfercase (from W series 4 cylinder toyota mini truck - you need 2 so this is transfercase 1 of 2
-Advanced adapters dual gear driven tcase 4.7:1 reduction box (21 spline)
-RF1A gear driven 21 spline transfercase (from W series 4 cylinder toyota mini truck - you need 2 so you can add reduction box…so this is transfercase 2 of 2
