Hi,

I saw this winch for sale, and the seller told me that this is a OEM Toyota winch and fits a 70 and a 40 Series Land Cruiser. Is this true? Anyone knows this winch?
What is a fair price for this winch?

I've never actually seen one of the pto setups for the 70 series, but that doesn't look anything like the OEM pto on my '72 40. Does the current owner have the rest of the pto setup to go with it?

tha tlooks like a 70 series PTO factory and it will not fit the 40 series with out some decent modifications...

I just did the shear pin tonight on my PTO on my 74.
It doesn't really look like the one on my 74.

Looks like the freewheel+engaged lever is on the other side.
Maybe its off the newer style of 70 series? Or another series?

i missed that point Nick, good catch...
the mounting brackets do look like 70 series since the 40 series mounted to the top of the frame horns...

That's one of the rare later model toyota PTO winches. They're a good winch according to those I've spoken to that own them, but parts are $$$$ if you break anything.

It couldn't be too hard to build a mount & fit one to the front of a 40, but you'll need the right PTO box, lever setup & driveshafts too. It'd definitely be easier to just get a factory 40 setup.

Cheers
Clint

actually i wnet and looked at the one on the 1991 HZJ73 and it has the same disengagement point so yes that is a factory PTO off a newer unit...

Post 1990 factory PTO unit as found on the 70 and the 80. Has a smaller worm gear than the older units. Reported to fail a little easier but then again the only PTOs I have seen fail are those that are run without oil for long periods of time.

For 500 euros a winch we should go into business exporting them to Europe!

BJ40 3B where are you?

so did any other old toyotas come with pto's ?

like mini trucks or something...
I ask because I'm meeting someone in the morning ( and he's coming by boat to meet me from an island populated by hippies and freaks , so I don't have any pics)

he has a smallish pto winch , driveshaft and gear box that he's selling for a hundred bucks, and he's pretty sure it's off some sort of toyota...

So yeah, could be anything, but it is cheap, and could be handy so I"ll probably pick it up.

I figger chances are halfway decent it's one like Gord (exmodlad) posted the pic of.

( wish I had a printer , i'd take that pic with me tomorrow....and tomorrow night I may have pics of my own mystery PTO...)
