Ordered a pair of Maxtrax in FJ Red. Ordered a Dobinsons Zenith air compressor and a tire repair kit.

I don't think anyone here is running that compressor so I'll pass along my initial thoughts.

If your looking for maxtrax a lot of websites are running out and are backordered. still looking for mounting pins and a way to mount them to my gamiviti rack. I may just visit the hardware store for a simple solution.

I added four easy tie down points to the roof rack for light stuff.

By far you have one of the nicest looking 200 series I've seen. Love the black on white.

Thank you! I've been inspired by a lot of people that have come before me on these boards!

I like it.
You could also help keep honest people honest by running a cable lock through a couple eyelets if the length is just right (so as not to allow twistable slack).

I cross drilled two of them and used TSA combo luggage locks. It's a very mild deterrent but it makes it easy to unlock them when needed and if I am traveling overnight and away from the truck I take them off and put them in the vehicle or take them with me.

I chose to go this route over the Maxtrax locking mounts because they customizable, lower profile, easily installed and removed when not in use and they cost me around $15 including the locks and stainless hardware. I tighten the down by hand but one could go even tighter using a screwdriver or other tool wedged in the eyelet, that said, I have never had them move and that include 800+ mile one way trips at 75-80 mph. A cable lock would add to the security for sure.

Ya, as we know...a determined crook will take what they want. But little additions like that do go a long way toward persuading people they are more likely to be noticed as they defeat even wimpy locks.

I’m amazed I haven’t had much stolen.

The only stolen item was my iPad while I was getting burger. I tracked it with an app...and personally retrieved it across town...escorted by police! :)

But ya... Keepi g honest people honest is main goal. :)

Agreed, they only keep honest people honest, but hopefully it's enough of a deterrent when at lunch or in a filling station to keep the quick smash and grab types at bay. Mine are only on the rack when on a trip and needed, 98% of that time I am either with/in the rig or we are are so far removed from society that it really doesn't matter.

Can you share the source for these? I like that they are oblong!

I found them in a small mom and pop hardware store in south Texas and they said they must have been on the shelf for 15+ years when I bought them haha. They are made by Chicago Hardware, they are galvanized (I powder coated them) and they are eye nut model C186A which is a 1/4-20 TP. They make them in a 5/16-18 and 3/8-16 as well. I would try and find them elsewhere because buying them from this supplier is pricey, I paid $1.95 each and they show to be $7.16 a pop from these guys.

Great little convo here. That's a pretty awesome solution. I need to find a drill press to do that. Tim from Gamiviti recommended this.

Well I "finished" my pelican case build out. I have...

NOCO Jump Starter
Portable Air Compressor
Socket Set
Tool Bag with various wrenches, screwdrivers, odd ball sockets
Shackles
Tree Saver
Snatch Strap
Tire Repair Kit
Gloves
Shovel
and then some other odds and ends.

@Union Lets see some pics! I built a pelican case tool kit, but soon realized I have too much Shhtuff! So now I’m down to an Atlas 46 KOH mechanics bag.

I have Pelican 1650's and they get heavy fast.

Everything is more or less contained within it's own cases. It's pretty dang heavy and I need to mount it to the roof on offroad trips where I need storage space inside. Most likely just using a couple ratchet straps and a bike lock. As far as I know, no one is using this compressor so we'll see how it goes.

There has got to be a better way to fit this air chuck. It screws on about 2 threads deep and I find it extremely annoying that they expect it to work like this. I'd prefer more of a quick connect style so a trip to the hardware store may be in the works.

Nice work. I think an alternative to the ratchet straps and bike lock could be a couple of pipe brackets and bolts into the bottom of the case. Im considering the same thing with my 1500 Pelican and bolting it to the roof rack. Good Luck.

That's not a bad idea and may also work to mount the maxtrax.
