I've replaced my charcoal canister w/ the GM replacement and used new hoses when I swapped it in. I still have a fuel odor underhood. It seems to be strongest near the intake. All the hoses are dry (from what I can see). I want to have all the required parts on hand before I tear into it. Does anybody have any insight to what might be causing this? The truck runs great, idles appropriately etc. The only weird (maybe its normal) thing is that when it is cold, it will rev to approx 1800rpm upon start and stay around 1500rpm for a few minutes. Once the truck is warmed up, it starts and settles down to a normal idle right away. Is this a normal thing for a cruiser or could it be a leaky injector?

I'm just trying to find out what I'm getting into before I jump in

Is the CEL on, worse than average fuel economy? Possibly bad 02 censor/s.

I have found that one of the hoses under the intake manifold on my 94 was dry rotted and cracked. Not sure what component it supplied vacuum to but I just trimmed the ends and installed. I also have been trimming many of the rubber hose ends as many have got hardened and leak over time. Just because its hooked up doesn't mean it holding a good vacuum seal. I would be better off just replacing the hoses but $$$ is better of spent other places (brakes) at this time.

Your best bet its to get the intake plenum gaskets and remove the plenum and replace hoses (sorry I dont know the sizes of the hoses) and clean out the plenum while your are in there.

Your start up revs are common with my 80.

normal start up. as it gets colder it will take longer for it to warm, and as such stay higher reving for longer periods till it hits whatever temp it is that it wants to see before dropping the revs.

There is a mod if you dont like the start up rev but I think its not an issue so I just left it alone. With 395,000 mi on mine, its doesn't seem to be an issue.

Found the cause if the fuel stink! It's leaking from the fuel filter:bang: I was driving home from work and ALL the warning lights came on, the CD player lit up (radio was off) then everything went back to normal. At this point I was pretty peeved until I got home and crawled under it w a flashlight in my scrubs looking for a loose connection or broken belt. It was then that I discovered a wet spot btwn the engine and trans which I followed up to the fuel filter. It was soaked! So I solved one problem and found another. Oh well, maybe the lights were the truck warning me to stop driving it until I fix the fuel leak.

Regardless, thanks for the input
