 !! Thanks Joey. Didn't have to. Was just laughing at my stupidity.

The little metal tabs will be tig'd into place. Just need to make a simple jig first then it'll be a cakewalk.

So why am I even bothering with this? Well, lets just say I have a very interesting utilization for that switch spot in particular and it will be one of those, "holy crap I ALWAYS have that problem". And I will have a solution for it :flipoff2:

What it all means is I will be running I think one extra day behind. I was all set up to get these ready to pick up on EOD Friday to ship out on Sat. Now it looks like I will have everything on here ready to go instead by next Monday afternoon and ready to ship by a week from today.

Sorry guys, I was shooting for Friday.

I hope you only have one interesting utilization because I have one also and hate running out of switch slots.

Finally off to the welder. Getting close!

boy howdy! :spaz:

Ok guys, quick update. The metal shop boned me by being late with my tabs for the switch. Well they finally had them ready for me so picked up and dropped off to the welder. Welder had a convention he was attending so he didn't work on the brackets this weekend as we had talked about. Ugh. Hard to find reliability.

Welding will be done tomorrow afternoon. I will pick up everything and drop off at PowderCoating which takes two days. Then I just rivet on the name plate and ship everything out.

Sorry the delivery has taken a few days longer than expected :(

If you were 9001 certified things like this wouldn't happen...:hillbilly:

Case in point, everybody needs to have several fire extinguishers. If you were like me when I first saw this thread, knowing that you should have a fire extinguisher in your car, but you are were to cheap and lazy to buy and install one, shut-up and go get some.:flipoff2:

Just minutes ago my sister came in the door from work and said she saw a suspicious glow in the neighbors carport. After checking it out through the binoculars we decided to drive over there as it is a strange time to have a bonfire, especially in the middle of town. Getting there we saw that a battery that was hooked up to a charger that was sitting on a workbench in the carport had caught fire. Rang the bell, nobody home. Quickly ran back to our house called 911, and grabbed our only two fire extinguishers.

Emptied the first one on the fire, good, it smothered it and put it out. Minutes later the embers ignited the battery acid again. Ugg, second fire extinguisher used up, fire out again. Then I went and knocked on the neighbors doors that still had lights on. Nobody had any freaking fire extinguishers!:bang: About five minutes later, as the sirens began to sound in the distance, the fire sprang up again. If the department had not been on it's way, every single neighbor would have been woken up with a request for a fire extinguisher.

The flames were licking at the soffit in the carport when we got there. If we didn't have any extinguishers...well our neighbor would have had to say goodbye to his house.

Needless to say I will be promptly buying some more fire extinguishers. A few for the house (Kitchen, basement, beside the wood stove, 3rd floor, etc...) and two for my landcruiser. I may consider buying this mount for my 80:hmm:
I really like this mounting option. It's quick and accessible, and it serves as an example to anybody who is riding in your car.

Right now though I need to go lie down because I feel really sick from the couple small lungfuls of smoke I got.

I had the chance to test-fit a prototype unit on my '96 LC yesterday - my Cruiser has factory manual seat brackets, and I wanted to be sure the bracket/extinguisher fit with the manual brackets.

The mount fits great with zero clearance issues. No interference between the bracket/seat/manual adjust lever (even if the knob was still there...:p) Sorry about the pics and dirty interior, and the cheapo Kiddie extinguisher and mount (the mount isn't meant to hold the extinguisher horizontally...) At least the size of the extinguisher is proper (3lb.) There should be plenty of room for any 3lb extinguisher on any mount. IMAG0189.webp IMAG0191.webp IMAG0173.webp IMAG0176.webp IMAG0177.webp

Any other tests I should try with my manual seats (I have a '94 and a '96 both with OEM manual brackets) while I have the prototype on hand?

Joey did mention some changes to the final units (I'll let him get into that) but overall I am very happy with the fit of the unit. I look forward to picking up my own soon!

Man this makes me happy. I was nervous that the seat design would prevent the utilization of this mount but it looks fine.

Thanks for reiterating the non-value of the bracket that comes with the cheapy extinguishers. Don't use them. I barely trust them to hang on a wall. No way in hell should they be mounted horizontally on this mount.

I'm content. Would be good to hear from other non-luxury 80s ;)

Only change the removal of the top plate, the piece that is bent down at 25º. It hindered too much forward movement and even if the seat was all the way back and up it still wouldn't give me any real usable space.

Just got the call that these will be ready EOD. Woohoo!

I will need to do a bunch of riveting. For those that ordered the switch option, I am making up the pigtails for those now so that I can ship everything together. Actually...for those that ordered with the switches, do you want to install yourself or should I go ahead and remove the knock-out, deburr the tabs and install the wiring with the zip-tie in place?
