Cool! She's ready for mo powa now :)

Replaced 80 ex gaskets on side of a mountain in Asheville. Last set made It a whopping 6 days but enough to clear MIL and pass inspection.

Don't go with victor Heinz or any paper gasket sets. I knew that but they were sitting on the shelf here. Now i remember why.

I had the steering cable go out on me and almost sink. we were sitting for a while and didn't notice it until we started going and the whole back of the boat was filled with water. should have gotten an outboard!!

I made my bones with boats living in the lower Fl Keys for ten years. Down there a Sterndrive or I/O is a huge no no. Everywhere you run in the Keys is around coral islands and there are coral heads lying like land minds just under the surface of the water. Does not matter what kind of drive you have, if you hit a coral head you will suffer damage.

A traditional outboard will move up on the hinge point, an I/O will rip out of the transom in some cases. Rarely does an I/O survive. Inboards rarely run out of the channels. I ran a 4 blade, replaceable blade, adjustable pitch prop on my back country boat. I have limped home on a blade and a half vibrating like hell after missing a slim channel at dusk, no fun.

One last boat item that needed doing today. Had to get rid of the 1990's era Craig head unit and put in something with a little bluetooth capability.

Funny you should mention that. I did just happen to have a few extra horses sitting on the shelf. Bolted up some 1.6:1 full rollers today in place of the stamped 1.5:1 stockers.

Still looking for 4 barrel intake and carb to compliment the now installed "pseudo-cam".

That right there is what $109.00 gets you at the welding supply store. The bill is just for scale. Motor is the same size as an RC car. 14 years or so is not bad. That is the motor that drives the die that pushes the wire. Motor still runs fine, bearings on the shaft are shot. I added a new hose set and gun about a month ago. It's nice to have a new welder again :)

why would you dig around the foundation like that just to add material back? looks sketchy.

It does look strange, hopefully the foundation is pillars going deep into the ground (and not shown) and all we can see in the photo is just the skirt filler, not structural, otherwise a big rain could lower the house about 2 ft....

Backfill is not structural. In fact it is the opposite in this case. The former basement wall was built to both carry the load of the house but also as a retaining wall as well. The basement walls are built with both sides clear and then back filled. My guess is that the owners wanted it dug down so they would have some sort of a yard when complete.

Some hoity toity designer had grand visions of sunken and secluded stone patio with disappearing waterfall for ambiance

That and I brought my crawler to work this week haha

That ground level shown at foundation is 26' below virgin grade and the poured footings are 6' deep with a 6' step down for that part of house even though a slab

And Stan is on it too.... Trying to create flat ground on the side of a Mtn

Okay, besides the FJ40 art that my vehicle has betrothed to the driveway... Which my wife will be ecstatic about... What's wrong with this picture?

If you guessed the straw is missing from the spray can, you're correct! It's inside the differential now. Yes. I know.

Okay, seems like the gears would chew it up and be done, but I'm sure it will need to be removed... So. Can I drive it to @dbenke 's house? Should I disconnect the driveshaft? Can I just refill it and forget it? I can't see or feel it...

you can drive it,as long as it not in 4wd the front axle wont turn.not sure how we want to approach this.
front has no diff cover, so the third would have to come out, axles have to come out, etc.
we have alot of work already scheduled, we might have to work late.

Go pick up one of THESE at your local auto parts stores ($5.99 at Auto Zone). With it, a flashlight and some patience you should be able to get it out of the drain plug.

Okay, cool. It has no fluid in it, but as long as the differential isn't turning, shouldn't be a big deal. I will leave it in 2wd and hubs unlocked. If we run out of time before we need to move on with someone else's car, we will save the front axle for another day.

Thanks, David! Yeah, I have one, but if it's possible, it will require a better fisherman than me... I tried fishing it out but I don't think the tool ever grabbed hold of it.

I just shot something out of my nose. Thanks for lightening up my Friday.
