TVSS Remote Problems

Got a chance to take my new 95 FZJ 80 out today on it's first little adventure up some mountian roads around NW Washington, I'm going to have a long of fun with this rig. I have a few issues to iron out though and one is that both of the remotes for the factory Toyota Vehicle Security System (TVSS) are not functioning, the POV metioned this and also provided the original manuel for the security system so I have some info to work with. One question I have is where the security system ECU that's mentioned in the manuel is located? If I could find the unit I should be able to troubleshoot the problem. I'll try to clean the contacts on the remote bottons but if this doesn't work is it possible to unprogram the ECU of all remotes then reprogram the remotes using the secondary button for the remotes? The manuel idicates the second button can be used for another vehicle equipt with TVSS so why couldn't it be used for the primary? Any thoughts?

The alarm system is usually under the drivers seat. Move seat all the way forward and you can access it - assuming that's where it is.

Have your remotes got fresh batteries? I assume the red LED on the remotes lights up when the button(s) are pressed.

Maybe the alarm system has 'forgotten' the remotes - never had that happen with mine though.

I installed new batteries in the remotes today and cleaned the contacts, *presto*, I have remote entry and a security system now! It's hard to believe that the POV didn't know that when you press the button on the remote a little red LED lights up a slot in the upper right of the remote, he was the original owner for 14 YEARS and when I asked him about it he was sure the slot didn't light up!!!! Some peoples kids...
