I have some of those 70 series turn signals. They look killer on the 55s that I have seen, but I am having trouble figuring out how to mount them.:hhmm: I have been told that you have to use a heat gun to melt the bottom side to get them to sit lower on the fender. Still on all the pictures the top foward corner still seems to be above the fender line. It seems to me that with that corner up so high it is impossible to seal the lamp. When I have tried to place them (I have not melted them yet) I could stick a finger into the lamp. How are you guys doing it????

My fenders are off and sandblasted. I have patched the old hole and fixed rust with new metal. Por15. I am full into the new signals!

The picture on the SOR site is my pig and yes the corner is slightly higher than the fender. I filled the back side in with black silicon and smoothed it out so it seals. Once the hood is closed it doesn't show but I was worried about water too. I also had to build the rubber outside seal up because the fender has a slight curve to it. The turn signals were poorly mounted when I got the pig, but the PO did a good job of heating them and getting the curve so I can't comment on that part of the installation.

I went ahead and cut off the lower bolt to be able to lower it a bit more., and have been working the bend as well. I hate it when a project feels gingus.:o Getting the right hole set up.... I have to paint and do that seam seal, but I can't put the fender back on till I have the signal bolted on. It seems to me that I will mess the painting up if I have to move the fender around to install. I would like to put the signal on after I have mounted and painted the fender, but I guess that won't be happening- right? How did you nut and washer the signal on. I was thinking larger washer in combination with those garden hose gaskets, since the bolts are on an angle...

here are some picture to help.
You can see how it hugs the fender
There is a window cut in the inner fender to access bolting.

The upper bolt hole is large enough for the plastic foot to come through. I put a large nut as a sleave over the plastic foot and a washer to pull the base tight against the fender. If you just rest on the feet it sticks out too far.
The second picture show the window trimmed out with some door molding, and you can see the edge above the fender if you look close.
The third picture was an attempt to show how high it set up, but the lip is hidden.

Nice!!! Do you think that there are any downsides to cutting that section out? Strengths and things like that? This would make my life so much easier! Now I can get the body work done and then set the lights:clap: I have taken some pics that I will post. I think with the melting I have just gotten it below the rim and it does not touch the bottom fender either.

Nice beta! thanks

I don't think there is any strength issues. There a frame left all around and no flex in the side. Be sure to cut high enough to clear the top of the fender. The opening is 4 lnches tall and 4 1/2 inches long.

great shine

nocents, how did you get that amazing shine on your fenders? I am about to paint and want to get somewhat close to what yours looks like. Is it possible to do with rattle can and sandpaper?

Maaco $2500 paint job by the PO...Looks great from 20 feet, but is really not a good paint job. They left a bunch of easy to remove dents and did a crappy job on door jams and hood edges. PO said he had to stop the bleeding somewhere, so that what he got.
