Turn signals and hazards not working

Bumping this old thread as it seems to be closest to my current issues.

My blinkers all work perfectly when the lights are off. Once I turn on the head lights lights, and turn the blinkers on left and or right, all the rear blinkers flash…

I checked the main grounds under the kick panels under the dash. Thinking it might be grounds in the rear blinkers assembly??

Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Did you already look in the FSM electrical schematic to see where the common denominator is for all of those devices? that would be where to start.

What do you mean when you say you "checked" the grounds? What makes you think it might be the ground for the rear lights?

Thanks for the suggestion! I have been looking at the FSM electrical diagrams… not very good at decoding them. But I will keep using them to push ahead troubleshooting.

From others advice, seems most say that it’s a grounding issue somewhere. Thats why I checked the grounds under the dash first. I did a full body clean and spray with lizard skin. Thought I might have insulated the grounds there with the spray.

I figure it’s most likely at the rear lights since they all blink, including the side markers.??

The schematic isn't a code, it's just a map of where current is flowing.
This is not meant to sound harsh, but taking advice on electrical repair over the internet is always at best just a guess. Don't guess, think! The schematic is literally a blueprint that tells you exactly where and how everything works.
Every device (light, radio, horn, etc) is DC and just needs +12v and ground to function. So if things are working when they should't, they are either getting 12V or ground when they shouldn't. So open the schematic, find each device in question, and start tracing the 12v and ground paths. I'm guessing it is probably your headlight switch as that is the last place all of those devices intersect but that is just a guess, you can figure that out yourself for sure by just looking at the FSM.

Sounds like a plan! I will keep pushing forward with the FSM.

I’ll start with the headlight switch first, that makes sense. Thanks for the assist!

my goal is to help you learn how to help yourself. :)

Check the fuses first, turn and hazard/horn fuses. does your hazard switch works when you turn on? Circled in blue are related to the turning/blinkers lights.. In my case the signals don't work because of the damaged turn signal flasher. My guess is a bad ground, turn signal switch or turn signal relay.. Also check to see if the light bulb is corroded.

Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the response! I put in a new flasher, no joy. My hazards work normally. I’m gonna start at the headlight and turn signal switch’s and start tracing from there back to the tail lights. It’s the original harness so I’m hoping I don’t have a cracked wire somewhere feeding into the rear lights…
