I realize this is an old post but is there any other after market antenna's that will fit besides this way?

Specifically one of the rubber antennas? Something like this:

I couldn't find any aftermarket antennas that would fit without looking crappy. Both crappy in the cheap sense but also in the sense that they didn't have the right angle to match the body.

No offense but the one in your link is a lot like the ones I tried and rejected. I like the idea of a rubber antenna but I couldn't make one work, and I also think the reception suffers because they are generally short. So that's how I ended up with the Tundra antenna. I have noticed since doing this that the Tacoma (2nd gen) antennas are very similar... maybe 4Runners from the same era too. So you might find something used or at pick and pull if you can widen the search from just a Tundra.

Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. My original works fine but I'm putting a new HU in and dont want the factory antannae.

More pictures:

Mounting the new assembly inside the wheel well

Routing the new antenna cable extension (this is a good time to check/replace your cabin air filters if you have the access door)

Pulling the stereo
I've just pulled my power antenna as well, and I was either thinking of going this route or possibly using the Gamiviti mount, my question is what did you do with the cord that was powering your motored antenna? Mine's just hanging there right now and I'm trying to decided what to do with it....zip-tie to to that little cross-member, pull it into the engine bay? Any insight would be great.
Thanks
Bryan

As is:

use it to power a relay to a winch :) it even has the in and out arrows already on it :)
Good idea. I thought maybe an on-board compressor but that makes more sense. Maybe I should pull it back into the engine bay then...
Still have to figure out what to do about sealing/plugging the old antenna hole haha

I'm pretty sure I taped it off really tight to keep it dry, then zip-tied it to something in the cavity.

But I do like the winch idea. Shame to let a good in-out switch just go to waste.

Thanks for the info. That's what I thought I'd do...I'm not sure it'll pull back through the grommet into the engine bay but I might try, then zip tie it to the other cables simply because I hadn't thought about the winch idea before it was suggested haha. Otherwise I'll do what you did and tape it up then zip it to that little cross-member in there.

Thank you for a great post and the part numbers. My power antenna crapped out a week after I bought the truck. Love the look and durability of the fixed antenna (have the same exact one on my Tundra), and love having my radio back!

Thank you for a great post. My power antenna crapped out! Found 2 antennas from wrecked Tundras at U pick for this purpose.

- One note; the stock tundra Cable is about 6 inches too short, your extension does not need to be very long,1-3 ft would work great. The 6ft one I bought was a little much but was only 3$ shipped on ebay.

This is a great write-up. Was wondering if there is an adapter to connect the factory line to the Tundra antenna connection? That way, you would not have to pull the radio. And what are the names of these two connections (the smaller stock size and the larger size from the Tundra)? Just curious. An adapter would make it really simple.

It's been a while, but I remember looking for an adapter and coming up short. The female end on the stock cable is deep and narrow compared to the Tundra (and all generic) male ends. I was surprised when I realized they didn't work together.

In the end I went to a car stereo shop and after explaining what I needed and asking about an adapter, the guy there said, "Dude, just fish an extension through... it's not that hard." Basically he shamed me into it. And he was right.

I don't know the official names of the connections but I do remember the extension cable being a "universal AM/FM antenna extension"

The original connection looks to be ISO, and the new connection looks to be DIN. Ordered this adapter yesterday. I will report back when it comes in:

Just buy the correct Land Cruiser antenna. No adapter. No bracket to fab. PNP.

Well, should of done that. I didn’t know it existed or could be sourced. Already bought the Tundra antenna though.

Actually, pulled the trigger on it. We will see if both work 😂😂😂

This is why I deleted the power antenna though:

I think this one came up earlier in the thread. Looks good and easy. Cheaper in the end, too.

I did not want retractable, though, because they're pretty brittle (when you forget to retract them). The Tundra one flexes pretty well.
